I really like how Crutchfield builds his roster in the NIL era. Still recruits talent locally that seems overlooked or needs a litttle more development. Then hits the junior colleges for talent that can step in and play right away.

I went to some games this year, next year will hit as many as possible.

Next year will be a big test for his system. Gone are the days when a South Dakota St. or North Dakota St. can dominate the league with a band of 5th year seniors that played together since they were freshmen. Some mid-major fans have lamented this sea change, and it will make these schools much less competitive in the NCAA tournament, but I like what it's doing for parity at the mid major level. Those that can compete year in and year out, will be those schools with a more stable coaching staff who can find the diamonds in the JUCO and high school world that others may be overlooking. So far, Crutchfield looks capable of being that kind of coach, but the sample size of success if too small to make a definitive judgement at this point.

The NCAA landscape is right now in a period of constant change. Hard to draw any long term conclusions on what' the best way to do things other than for a year or two in advance.

Those that thrive will be able to constantly adapt, open to change and be forward thinkers. Also, not be afraid to make mistakes.
