Re: 2025 Weather Thread
Okay, yeah, the main storm I was watching was the one north of town. That was the video of the tornado that looked impressive, and was the main focus of the danger so far as I could tell. So your video was of the storm south of town.

Re: 2025 Weather Thread
Just to clarify what I said earlier that I believed at least one of the tornadoes that I saw south of Omaha yesterday would have likely been an EF1 but potentially stronger if it had hit anything (which as far as I’m aware, it never did which is a good thing).
This is IMO a pretty obvious tornado on the left side of the lowering in the image below (granted on a very scudy/ragged looking wall cloud).

This screenshot below is of the video I shared which shows the remnants of the tornado dying out and a couple funnels trying to form/cycle back up and briefly touching down (especially on the left - watch the video below and you’ll see what I mean). Obviously these new funnels produced an EXTREMELY weak tornado - but the earlier one was significantly stronger.

If you speed up/scrub through video, the rotation on the left and funnels are more obvious:

Finally having a chance to go through my footage from Thursday. A couple more tornadoes I saw from south of Omaha. Both looked relatively strong but neither thankfully hit anything.

Re: 2025 Weather Thread
Pretty disappointing so far. I was expecting to wake up to wet pavement. Instead, basically nothing. Should have about a quarter of an inch by now if we were gonna hit the forecast total. Looking at the radar, unless something reeaallyy changes, it looks like we're largely getting domed again.

Yeah, got a whopping .20” of rain. Just came back from eastern Iowa and they are going to get 2-3”.

Totally lame, but I guess we can say it's been so bad lately that every little bit helps.

Pretty much a guarantee now we saw our last freeze on April 8th, which is crazy early. Would have to do some digging, but it sounds like that may be a record early last freeze.

Re: 2025 Weather Thread
At Eppley I show the average date is 4/21, the earliest date was 3/29/1941. For the Omaha area which is a slightly different data set I show 3/21/1925 and the average date drops to 4/18. That data set also has 4/8 in 2010.

Looked like the hail threat was decreasing as it moved in to western Douglas county but then all off the sudden it really ramped up.Louie wrote: Tue Apr 22, 2025 3:40 am Little line of storms coming through the northern half of the metro.

Re: 2025 Weather Thread
Yep, looks like some areas of Elkhorn and Bennington got hit by some damaging hail again (mostly quarter sized but maybe some areas slightly larger).
More strong to severe storms will happen again today but should mostly stay south of Omaha into far southeast NE. Additional scattered strong/severe storms will be possible later this week as well but for the most part, that threat looks pretty scattered currently though we should hopefully get some much needed rain.
A more widespread severe weather outbreak looks possible next Monday (April 28th) with the potential for all storm modes including a threat for damaging wind, large hail, and tornadoes. It's too far out to know specific areas at risk for tornadoes (for example) since the track/timing of things will undoubtedly change some but the SPC currently has a day 7 outlook out that includes our area.
This is the day 7 outlook currently for Monday, April 28th:

I agree, it was looking impressive in Cass county until it hit the OmaDome... My kid's soccer practice got cancelled and I'm not sure it ever rained.

Re: 2025 Weather Thread
Monday, April 28th continues to look like potentially a significant severe weather day across parts of the area (including Omaha). All storm modes appear possible including a risk for tornadoes. Depending on timing, the higher risk may end up east of Omaha and would include much of Iowa but its currently too far out to really know yet.
Currently the SPC has a day 5 30% risk area (similar to an enhanced risk) that includes Omaha on east. Given this is a day 5 outlook, this "could" end up being our first moderate or even high risk event this year depending on how things come together.
Here is the current SPC outlook that shows the 30% risk area including Omaha (barely):

Re: 2025 Weather Thread
Based on the mesoanalysis, visible satellite, and short range model trends, IMO there is at least some chance for a localized severe weather threat in or near the Omaha area later this afternoon into early this evening. This includes a threat for large hail, damaging wind and a low end threat for an isolated tornado.
Just mentioning it so people are paying attention. Obviously it isn't a huge threat but we don't need a huge threat to have some storms that cause issues - especially if one moves right over Omaha itself.
Please remain weather aware...

Tornado warning southwest of Lincoln now. That storm will pass very close to Lincoln and just barely south of Omaha if it stays on it's current track.
Additional storms are developing that may impact Omaha itself soon though.

Very heavy rain around 5pm out at 156th and Harrison. I’m sure they got an a few inches if not more. Luckily just some small hail and some wind gust maybe 30-40 tops. Some street flooding.

lol nope - but it tends to be always how we break droughts unfortunately (as I’ve mentioned before - droughts seem like they are almost always Mother Natures early warning that a flood is coming…kinda like waves receding before a tsunami)Padre wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 12:10 amJust not all at the same time!

Closest I saw to anything tornadic. Saw a few brief funnels like this but they only lasted around 10 seconds before disappearing.
This was just east of CB looking southwest around 4:45

Apparently that was a brief tornado according to storm reports anyway. I’m not convinced it actually touched down though.

Per KETV, Mike Flood is saying weather balloon launches from Valley will resume. They didn't give a timeline, but if it happens that would be a positive development.
