2025 Global City Importance Report-

Post by Omaha Cowboy »

This is a fascinating read and well documented and researched..

Several tidbits-

*Omaha is ranked as the 54th most important city/metro in North America.

*Omaha is ranked the 49th most important city/metro in the United States.

Other regional city/metro rankings-

Most important city/metros in the United States-

*Lincoln 81st.
*Des Moines 65th.
*Oklahoma City 46th.
*Kansas City 33rd.
*Tulsa 58th.
*Wichita 92nd.

I find the rankings of Lincoln and Wichita a bit puzzling- I’d flip them. In any case, enjoy this!..

Lincoln and Wichita make sense to me. Lincoln has both the Nebraska state government and UNL, whereas Wichita is the largest city in Kansas but really doesn’t have a ton going for it otherwise.

Although Wichita is the much larger metro, your reasons as to why Lincoln is more highly ranked is likely 100% correct. Another puzzling one, to me at least, is the omission of Lubbock TX in the top 150. It is an important university city and is significant in the north west Texas region. Perhaps the fact it is a Texas city, works “against” them a bit…

A win for Lincoln is a win for Omaha and the other way around as well. Afterall, in the far distant future with the close proximities of Lincoln and Omaha; both cities may merge as one.

Lincoln beating out Wichita, Wichita being a larger metro; shows that Lincoln punches above its weight. Omaha has a history of punching above its weight as well.
So it is nice to see two Nebraskan cities outperform in many areas.

Omaha and Lincoln performing well bodes well for the region and state of Nebraska..

It’s a most impressive ranking for Omaha at 49 and Lincoln at 81. From reading up on this report, they update this data several times a year. This report just came out March of 2025. I’d imagine the the next update to be sometime in the Fall…
