I agree - He's seeing the same thing I am where it "looks like" the storms will mostly collapse before they get here but it might be cutting it close. Areas west and north of Omaha are at a higher risk than we are here in Omaha itself.Busguy2010 wrote: Mon Jun 02, 2025 4:23 pm Don't wanna draw away from the severe threat, though according to Rusty its not much to worry about.

Strong to severe storms should start developing over the next couple of hours from central parts of NE up towards Sioux Falls SD. Very obvious cumulus field along the boundary currently so towering cumulus should start showing up soon with storms developing shortly there-after.

I don't but I'm sure there are similar totals in spots throughout the metro where the heavier thundershower ended up last night.skinzfan23 wrote: Tue Jun 03, 2025 12:18 pm Anybody else have some crazy rain totals from last night? 1.18" here so far. But that will certainly crawl up a more as the system continues to move through today.

ok glad I am not the only one. I know they stated some areas might get some heavy rainfall but I kept thinking that maybe I didn't empty my gauge or something, I wasn't expecting almost 2 1/2" from only 6-7 hrs. Either way, glad I mowed my yard yesterday and didn't use my sprinklers.

Anyone else jolted awake by a lightning strike around 3:30 in West O? I could have swore it hit right outside our house, but it could have still been within a mile. I swore there was even a metallic smell in the air afterwards.

Very well could have hit nearby. I had some nearby where the thunder was immediately after the flash. I got up and looked at the radar and turned on lightning strikes and there were a few strikes within a mile.Stan wrote: Tue Jun 03, 2025 2:46 pm Anyone else jolted awake by a lightning strike around 3:30 in West O? I slept pretty good last night. I heard a few that caught my attention briefly, but nothing that kept me awake.
I'm just more impressed by how late we're having a day like this. This is weather you see two months ago. Its out of place, but I appreciate it since early spring had so many well above normal days. Be hard to believe this isnt the last cool day until fall, so im (pun intended) soaking it up.

It definitely was nice to get some much needed rain. Also on the plus side (for most people), the severe weather chances I referred to last week have all shifted south of here so for the next few days, things should be pretty quiet though isolated strong/severe storms are always possible this time of year.

Re: 2025 Weather Thread
One of the more amazing strong yet small tornadoes I've ever seen (not my image/footage).
This thing was only a few feet wide at times but was rated an EF-4 and occurred in MN in 2020. These types of tornadoes are what are known as "drill bit tornadoes" for obvious reasons. Super intense winds over a relatively small area.
Anyhow, my point is you don't need to have a super wide or massive looking tornado for it to be strong/deadly. Crazy what the weather can do sometimes.

It's the best non-scientific weather prediction tool available. You could move the CWS to McMurdo Station and BOOM! Like clockwork, Antarctica is seeing record high temps with at least one severe thunderstorm warning.Brad wrote: Sat Jun 07, 2025 1:08 amOf course, CWS starts next weekend.stormchaser wrote: Fri Jun 06, 2025 11:17 pm

Maybe we'll get our seemingly annual tornado warned game delay during the CWS too? Re: 2025 Weather Thread
Its been pretty quiet during the CWS lately. A good share of lightning delays, and there was a tornado warning within 50 miles at one of the games I was at. But nothing like that infamous storm that hit in 2011, the very first series at the new stadium. That was like the baseball gods were angry about leaving Rosenblatt.
It was one of the most beautiful, yet angry shelf clouds I've seen go over Omaha, especially during a prominent event.
Excuse the lady's language, but its the best representation of that storm from that location.
I think there might have been one other storm like that, but that first one certainly set the tone.

I could be mistaken but I remember several tornado/severe warned delays in recent years - not necessarily for storms in Omaha itself but close enough that they still delay the game.

Yeah, hard to go off memory. But I also recall several lightning delays, far away tornado warnings, and severe thunderstorms. At least since 2011, nothing tops that first mothership storm. There might have been one or two somewhat like it in following years. But that storm was the book mark.stormchaser wrote: Wed Jun 11, 2025 7:53 pm Yeah, thats a nice healthy storm!

I still remember this day (June 20th, 2011). Even though I was living up in MN at the time near the Twin Cities, I was chasing over by York, NE and saw a couple of tornadoes over there.

Re: 2025 Weather Thread
The threat for strong to severe storms in our area will gradually increase the next few days. These storms will primarily pose a damaging wind and hail threat with night time/summer time storms.
Currently Monday night and Tuesday/Tuesday night appear to be the primary risk days though I wouldn't be surprised if we get some evening/night time storms starting as early as tomorrow night - especially areas just north and east of Omaha.

They might as well just call off Tuesdays games already. Looking at the forecast, we're (hopefully) in for a washout with thunder all day.

I mean, I hear ya. But if it pans out how the NWS was saying last time I checked, this would be a very beneficial rain event, that we absolutely need and deserve. It would be a very good thing for us to get over an inch of rain, or more, spread over the duration of a whole day. Nothing depressing about it, rather, if it pans out, it should be celebrated!

Just a heads up that it's possible that this severe warned storm west of Sioux City comes down here and impacts our area - its gradually turning more and more south/southeast anyway. It'll "probably" start dying out as it moves into the warmer air mass over our area but it might now - something to be aware of over the next few hours.

What is it looking like for tomorrow's 6pm CWS game? I haven't been to a game since 2019, but I have tickets for tomorrow, just trying to judge if I should sell them or not if there is a great chance of a storm.
