If I'm not mistaken they also closed in their hometown of New Orleans.

I suspect the novelty of eating at a nationally known chain wears off after you've done it once, and you realize that there are other steak places in town that have just as good - or better - food for the same or less. Suspect the same thing happens in Omaha eventually.Greg S wrote:They closed their location on the Plaza in KC just recently.

I would agree. The one in KC had been there for quite some time. I think another factor is that the more these places spread, the less "special" they tend to be. If you already have one in your home town, you are less inclined to eat there when you travel.

I've been to three locations and none of them were in hotels, but they were near destinations that had hotels, businesses, attractions, etc.. Anaheim was within walking distance of Disneyland in a standalone building. Salt Lake City was downtown in a standalone building near the convention center and a few hotels. And the one in Crystal City is surrounded by Fortune 500 HQ's, a metro station, and a couple hotels.OmahaOmaha wrote: Tue Nov 19, 2024 8:16 amI’ve dined at a half dozen of their restaurants. Before someone asks: The name "Ruth's Chris Steak House" comes from the first name of Ruth Fertel, who bought a restaurant in New Orleans named Chris Steak House in 1965 and renamed it after a fire destroyed the original building in 1976.

I have been to four, I believe. They have all been stand-alone and in an area of higher end business and hotels Much closer to a major road also. If I were to say where in the Omaha area, it would be maybe the Westroads area, One Pacific Place, or something downtown.

I could walk there and blow money on a steak and everything else a la Carte..

This is what the location in Memphis is. In east Memphis, just off Poplar Avenue, Memphis’ version of Dodge st. in an area similar to Regency or West Roads.nebugeater wrote: Tue Nov 19, 2024 2:58 pm I have been to four, I believe. I'm sitting at a Ruth's Chris bar in Albuquerque at this very moment. The restaurant is in a strip mall - no kidding. There's a lot of national chain retail around here but no major presence of class-A office buildings. Most of the office stock in this area looks very dated and tired. I suspect the Sterling Ridge/132nd & Pacific area in Omaha has way better demographics than this area.

Albuquerque is a poor city comparatively speaking to Omaha. Tired is actually a good descriptor of their office space.MadJack wrote: Tue Nov 19, 2024 8:41 pm I'm sitting at a Ruth's Chris bar in Albuquerque at this very moment. That area certainly has the demographics to support it. I’m guessing that downtown Omaha is pretty well saturated with high end steakhouses, and the existing places on the west side of town seem to have all found their niche, despite not being near any big convention hotels.
That said, do we really need any additional high end steak houses?

I’m all for additional options for dining. Even if it’s a national chain. Frankly, I’m a bit surprised they haven’t located in Omaha as of yet. They should have set up shop here 15 or so years ago imo…

Why would Omaha pursue a chain that seems to be circling the drain? The one near where I work is considered the bottom of the heap. They did the same thing with On the Border.

Omaha doesn't pursue these chains. Some of these chains pursue Omaha, and other times its just a single developer pursuing the chain. The city does not pick restaurants.ricko wrote: Mon Jul 21, 2025 1:55 am Why would Omaha pursue a chain that seems to be circling the drain? I'm still surprised the "Ruth’s Chris" name was included in the Planning Board documents. Most applications would just say "Restaurant".

They've always had one of the most awkward restaurant names to say: Ruth's Chris.
I get it. It's Chris Steak House, owned by Ruth, thus Ruth's Chris Steak House. It just looks weird. Also, most people I know just pronounce it "Ruth Chris" anyway.

I'm being a bit sarcastic, as I understand it is a classy place (relatively speaking) - but for the $$$$, definitely places I'd pick over them.

The name of this place, and thread have always bugged me to the point of never clicking on the thread until now, that I've learned I'm not the only one annoyed by the name.
