That looks very nice for initial renderings, Thank you! I can only imagine how nice the Omaha skyline will look from that raised walkway. I can also imagine how "full" rivers edge will look from the Omaha Riverfront.

This is probably in the distant future, but it will be nice for the Dodge Golf Course to be converted to residential and connected to the new river's edge. (Maybe they could upgrade this development to a European Style village :;): )

They could possibly then extend rivers edge to the ugly surface lot and reclaim more waterfront. Then at the edge of this rivers edge extension, they could build another Bob Kerry bridge look alike (In the name of an accomplished mayor), connecting Jones St or the south most edge of HoA.

Image

Of course Conagra would have to stop being a party pooper, by not gating it's HoA side. Depriving the public of connectivity and not giving a full HoA experience.

Better yet, if Conagra packs up, leaves and builds its condensed office somewhere else in downtown, that would work too. Giving the chance of redevelopment of the current Conagra buildings to something else.

The more Omaha and CB collaborate in the future, the stronger our metro will be; so much potential in the future!

I know that some work had been started here earlier this year in terms of clearing some trees and putting in dirt roads etc. Anybody know how much the flooding of the last few weeks might have set things back. Had there been much surveying work that was lost?

This was the last update from Grow Omaha:
The River’s Edge development continues to take steps toward the anticipated construction of the adventure tower and other amenities on the Council Bluff’s riverfront. Most recently, Southwest Iowa Nonprofit for Collective Impact and the City of Council Bluffs were awarded a $4.9 million Destination Iowa Grant for the project. Construction is on hold until issuance of a permit from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. The city anticipates issuance of the permit by early September with construction following soon thereafter.

Kind of surprised nobody mentioned it yet but it looks like things are really starting to get going. There has been one of those large crane mounted drills on site for at least the past week.

For some reason I though it had been mentioned so I never came back here to look. I was hoping to get Aerials this past Saturday but scheduling didn't work out. Hopefully soon.

The current project is far better than what was originally envisioned for the area, but I hope they will at some point incorporate the small island that was in the original plans.

Are you talking about the small pond pavilion or the island on the river? The river already has a large “sand bar” more or less. Has a bunch of trees etc. but when the water levels are low you can walk out to it. The Nebraska side is dredged deeper and always has water flow though.

The island labeled Discovery Island with a bridge built to it on the map.

That island already exists however I don't see a way to put anything there being as the island shrinks and grows depending on how dry or wet the season is.

That island too quite a beating in the 2011 flood and was never really repaired. Its way smaller than it was before the flood.

IF the do fix it, a bridge would be great. That area was created in 2006 or 2007 when they created the slow water channel off the main channel as habitat for pallid sturgeon. There was some water back there before 2006, but nothing like they created in 2006/2007.

I walked by the construction going on last Wednesday and they were really going to town out there. I could see they had sunk quite a bit of rebar for the walkway pylons but was also surprised they were working on a considerably larger platform out in the middle. I assumed it was for the climbing/observation tower but I didn't think that was coming until a later phase. Can anybody shed a little light on that?

South of playland are, there seems to be some core drilling equipment and the area is blocked off. Is this the work on the pier?

Pretty sure you are correct about this. I am happy it seems that this Phase 4 of the CB side seems to be advancing quickly once it got going. I thought it might be a bit more drawn out. Their pier will make a great counterpoint to the one in HOA park.

Substantial progress the past month. Dozens of support piers for the walkway have been placed and many of the walkway spans have been placed. The tower is growing quickly. Much of this progress can be seen from the Bob while walking towards the CB side.

The CWS visitors will sure get a dose of a new project being constructed, as they cross from Baby Bob to Bob Kerry bridge into CB
Yet another reason to keep CWS visitors coming back, we have the momentum and we'll sustain it.

Thank you! I figured it would be kind of a pain having to get all the way off the Bob bridge just to have to walk over to the foot of the elevated walkway.

For sure.

BTW, I was driving by on Abbot and we could see the treetop walkway from there. So excited it's finally under construction. We are looking forward to this and the adventure tower. They will bring even more people to the riverfront.

I believe this says that the woodland is connected to the bridge and you walk through the woodland to get to it.

Sorry, I did not include the formatting when I copied and pasted it, but it's a bulleted list. See above. I think it's saying the treetop walk is connected to the bridge. Also, if you look at this rendering from HDR, there seems to be a connection to the bridge on the bottom of the image.

Bridge seems mostly finished from the pedestrian bridge. There was a couple of missing chunks leading from the CB pavillion to this section, but I didn't have time to get better pictures.

i honestly wish they would have kept the lake from that rendering on the CB side. i think that would have been super cool, but maybe take away from HoAP? but i can’t honestly complain ahaha, finally becoming a bridge to *some*where, love what they got going now
