I'm always looking out for motorcyclists on the road. Those that choose to be idiots on them put everyone at risk. I've never had a tolerance for them weaving in and out of traffic, riding on the shoulder or doing wheelies on city streets. Whenever I see one with one of those camera arms sticking off the back of the bike, I assume the worst and try to avoid being anywhere near them.

Someone like that (if they get caught) should have their license revoked. There's absolutely zero reasons to ride like that.

Genuinely you will not live long driving 200 mph in normal traffic.

And these will be the same clowns that blame the person driving a car when there’s an accident.

A few years ago, I was going north from Gretna toward Elkhorn. Heavy traffic for the most part, but there were some gaps, and it was slower than normal due to the volume. I was in the right lane, and there were cars next to me on the left. All of a sudden, two motorcycles fly between us at who knows what speed, riding wheelies. All I could envision is that at some point, where there was a break, a car would go to change lanes. They rode the wheelie for as far as I could see. This was before I had a dash cam in all my vehicles.

Well, it's good to see im not the only one that condemns these motorcycle "groupies" or whatever term wouldn't offend them.

Those low lifes are hitting it hard tonight at the Casey's at 77th & Dodge tonight, and well, every day and night. I can hear them from well over a mile away up the creek bed. Cant even sit on my porch and enjoy a peaceful moment. Ive deduced its mostly one guy rev-lining his stupid motorcycle. I think he incites conflict within his group and they solve it by whos being the loudest and most annoying 😂. Little man syndrome, just a guess. Then they all (literally)race east on Dodge. I guess "whos the fastest to get downtown and back"

Some stupid shid like that. Their behavior is infuriating and completely ridiculous, reckless, dangerous, and a threat to public saftey.

I was driving eastbound on I80 last night when a black SUV absolutely blew the doors off my car. I was between 42nd and the 480/JFK merger, and in the middle lane. I was a few over the speed limit so 68-69 in a 65 and this black SUV past me going so fast, it shook my car and passed me like I was standing still. Easily had to be 100+ mph. I drive a decent sized SUV myself and was shocked how much is shook my car when he flew by me.

More and more, I think people who would drive like that are plain and simple involved in criminal activity.

Driving 90 or 100 with everybody else in Texas is one thing, but you drive that fast in Omaha, you've gotta be up to something.

And I've been known to push it a little bit. I spend a lot of time in the left lane, maybe 70 or 74. Which you would think should be enough to satisfy everybody else. WRONG.

If youre going 74 in the left lane, don't think twice about getting out of it, cause there's always somebody else going faster. And I thought I was bad lol.

I just caught a glance of 144th & West Dodge on Channel 6, it looks like they've done some repaving. Since you can see the tire tracks now, I noticed a lot of them go directly from the eastbound left turn, to the westbound on ramp. Has that ever been a legal thing to do? I didn't think so, but is that something people do anyway?

There's no sign saying it's not and it's why the curb is round from the exit to entrance. It's just essentially a U-turn. I've done it in the past.

The reason you are seeing it so much right now is likely construction traffic turning around to get to the other side.

I've always seen the opportunity, It just has never been a need for me, personally. I've never felt like it should be allowed. I don't really see anything unsafe about it, though, only problem could be is if somebody does do this "U-turn" and somebody else is getting on from the right hand on ramp. There is a yield sign, but if I'm getting on, I'm certainly expecting to yield for traffic coming from the other left turn lane. If you do that, you're essentially driving the wrong way for a short distance. Its kinda sneaky.

But yeah, I bet you're correct about it being mostly construction traffic right now.

I’ve always wondered about that myself. I’ve seen police cars do it at 204th St. although they might not always be the best example to follow regarding traffic laws. I suppose you’re not driving the wrong way for much longer than any other left turning traffic at a SPUI might, and on paper it doesn’t seem to conflict with any of the signals.

On some freeways with service roads, this kind of thing is actually encouraged. I’ve driven through otherwise traditional diamond interchanges on US 75 on Dallas that had dedicated U-turn lanes.

It's no different than people turning left onto the ramp. Those turning right can see a car coming regardless of where it started. They shouldn't be watching the turn lanes but the immediate road coming to their merge point.

And u-turns at any regular intersection has you sort of go the wrong way while you complete the turn. That's why you can only do it when cross traffic has a red light.

We have one of these at 72nd and L Streets. Although it will be demolished soon.

Not that it isn't more of a novelty out there, BUT if I were a pedestrian crossing the on ramp that said "U-turn" would occur on, I would have the right of way as the north and south-bound left turns are green, and the vehicle making that U-turn cut over would definitely be in the wrong. Leads me to believe those intersections definitely aren't meant to be used that way.

These interchanges are definitely designed to allow for U-turns.

Do you mean when traffic on (for example) 144th turns left onto the ramp? Or when the exit ramps turn left onto 144th?

For the former, no, it's not allowed because the offramp has a red light. Although the pedestrian signals would also not show walk because of the turns from 144th.

For the latter, the pedestrian signals shouldn't be allowing crossing on either the exit or entrance ramps since that movement is considered the cross traffic for these intersections. You can think of these as normal intersections. You don't see it where half the street has a walk indicator and the other half doesn't. You should only get a walk indicator when the signal for traffic going straight on 144th is green.

And even if you use the logic that a pedestrian crossing having a walk indicator means you can't pass through it in a car, that would mean you wouldn't be able to turn right on a green. It just means they need to yield to pedestrians if they are there.

I've crossed the one at 156th many times and from my experience I'm fairly certain both crossings are tied together. I usually never am able to make it across both the entrance ramp and exit ramp in one cycle.

I guess its tough to explain. If you're in the left hand eastbound exit lane, and you were to instead of continue north on 144th, you were to instead continue westward back onto the expressway.
Image
If we now all understand what I was seeing here, I would call that out of bounds. In that respect, no, the interchange out there aren’t designed to be used that way. Like Titos said, 72nd & L is designed to do that. Maybe the curbs out of Dodge are rounded because they knew people were gonna do it anyway, and rightfully so for emergency vehicles. But for casual use as a u-turn by mototists, I think thats a personal foul, 15 yard penalty. Its like if a football player gets caught calling another player a name. Its not a big deal, nobody's physically injured. But if the ref catches you...

There's nothing illegal or even dangerous about it if you do it from the leftmost lane when the off ramp has the green. And a cop won't give you a ticket if they see you do it. If it weren't allowed, there would be signs posted. There's not even left turn only signs that you could perhaps interpret that way.

This. In Nebraska, U-turn is permitted at any intersection that is not marked otherwise. Generally, there has to be about 250ft of clearance from oncoming traffic unless it’s a protected left. A U-turn at this location is completely legal. Pass go, collect $200.

Anyway, just doesn't feel right to me. You do you. At 144th in particular, since they expanded it an extra lane, you literally would be driving in the southbound through lane, going northbound. I get the light is kind of a protective barrier, but you are literally driving in the lane that is for through traffic for the length of the bridge at 144th.

I honestly never knew this to be a thing until the other day. I've driven out there plenty of times and never missed my exit to a point where I'd ever even consider making a u-turn at these intersections. Simply never crossed my mind. And I was shocked when I saw the tire tracks already embedded there after apparently a short period of time following a repaving.

Thats all.

Hilariously, annoyingly, yet satisfyingly, I just saw the motorcycle group at 77th & Dodge get broken up and scattered by the coppers. Just thank you, go rev your engines elsewhere. You're not cool.

Also been quite rowdy out on the streets for a Thursday night. Wonder what the deal is.

I started this post about bad drivers in Omaha. It seems to actually be getting worse, and I did not think that would be possible. Total lack of concern or concentration by most drivers. If you are continually passing people, YOU might be driving too fast. If you are continually being passed, YOU might be driving too slow. If you are continually looking at your phone while driving, YOU might want to pull over. If you are continually making right hand turns from the far left lane, YOU might want to start planning sooner.

I have noticed a lot of collision repair shops in Omaha. I bet they do a tremendous business. I'm sure there are plenty of recommendations for quality work, it seems to be just a matter time.

1. Running through red lights.
2. Tailgating.
3. Speeding.
4. Driving too slow.
5. 3 to 4 lane turns.
6. Distracted driving.
7. Weaving / Staying in your lane.
8. Keeping with the flow of traffic.

I think I've just come to the conclusion there's an extreme lack of integrity in a large percentage of our drivers. I hope not to offend anybody, but it should be said :

Teenagers
People who don't know English
People doing Tik toks
Jerk offs on motorcycles
Drunks
Weed smokers
People on their phone
Little guys with muscle cars and oversized trucks

I mean, there's no way around it. Its bad. At some point we have to call em out.

Its just crazy to me how "normal" it is for driving to be like, a secondary function. Just like your heartbeat, or your breathing. Its just wrong, but I get the feeling most think "ah well everybody does it".

I've noticed lately a LOT of cars practically blowing through the stop sign near me. They'll literally roll through the crosswalk and then stop. Im thinking "well, what was the point of stopping at all?" If there were a kid crossing the street, or even another car going the other direction, I hate to think about it. They basically stop a car length into the intersection. I see this all too often. On top of that theyre going like 35-40 in a neighborhood.

I don't see how not knowing English means someone doesn't understand the rules of the road nor how numbers work. You can argue all you want about shitty drivers, but inflammatory statements like this isn't acceptable here.

I can add a new crazy driving maneuver to the list. Yesterday going westbound on Giles I saw a car going eastbound pass another car in the middle turn lane. The car that was got passed was probably a couple miles under the speed limit,.....but come on now. That was unsafe and very dangerous. Why are so many Omaha drivers so aggressive and in a hurry? Seriously?, this is getting worse everyday and beyond ridiculous a this point.

You haven't seen that one yet? I see it way too often. Happens a lot on 114th between Dodge and Pacific. Seen it a couple times on Papillion Parkway just south of Blondo. I saw it out west somewhere recently too, maybe 192nd street?

One that bothered me while this thread was on hold, was people not going when the light turns green. I was behind someone the other day for two green arrows, and I'm a fairly forgiving person at that. I'll wait up to two, maybe even three seconds before I start getting the urge to tap on that horn to wake the person up.

They took me right to the edge on both left turns. I was in no hurry, but this really grinds my gears when I am. If I'm like 5th deep in a line at a green arrow, if everybody is on it and paying attention, you can easily get that many through, plus some. But sometimes you dont make it because each person takes a long pause to get going. To me, thats not a matter of cautious driving, but a matter of not paying attention.

I hate it cause I can only imagine it's a bunch of dufuses staring down at their phone. Like I said in an earlier post, its like the driving comes secondarily to whatever else is on their mind.

I saw another new one today on Center Street. Going westbound on Center Street around 5:15pm in very heavy traffic a driver has his left foot hanging out the window resting near his driver's side mirror as if he is just to exhausted to sit normal in his seat and drive like all of our lives depend on it. This did not appear to be safe,....at all.

Yep, I live not far from Standing Bear Lake, and have seen this along the 3-lane stretch of Ida west of 120th more times than I can count.

Here's my W T F of the season (so far).

Traveling north in the left lane on 72nd by NFM. Car in the middle lane puts on left turn signal to change lanes. More than 5-6 car lengths in between me and the person in front of me. They continue to drive next to the car thats in front of me. After several blocks, they finally get over. Their turn signal was on for a good 6 blocks maybe. I'm like "theres nothing stopping you from getting over except you!" LOL and SMH.

So, we both got in the left turn lane at 72nd & Farnam, they're in front of me. The left arrow was red. There was a break in traffic, and they went on a red arrow. Already perplexed, as I'm first in line now, several cars in line behind me. And to my right in the northbound lane comes a truck that takes a left from the straight lane in front of all of us.

I was just dumbfounded. Like, uhh, thats not how that works yall. I'm still just lost. Had two of the most idiotic traffic moves I might have ever seen happen in a span of under a minute. I just can't even.
