A few weekends back ( When I passed Brad on the interstate as he Left Nebraska Crossing) my wife and I made a day trip to Des Moines.

We stopped at the Fleet Farm on the West side of Des Moins just to check it out. It was a lot bigger than I would have guessed and they had a LOT OF STUFF

Here are a few cell phone photos.

We've been to the one in Sioux Falls. I agree, tons of stuff and quite the variety. Looking forward to them in Omaha.

This store reminds me of a Bomgaars or Tractor Supply on steriods.

The company is headquarted in Appleton, WI (my grandparents lived there) so I have seen them for quite some time. I still laugh because in Appleton, they literally have 2 of their gas stations right across the street from each other.

It's amazing how quickly this area has developed. A decade ago, there was nothing along Maple between 177th and 189th (and very little until around 195th). SEC of 192nd and Maple started developing around 2019. The 180th St bridge and connection to Blondo and further widening to Maple completed in 2022. And around that time, the first commercial and apartment developments directly along Maple between 177th and 189th first started.

I remember the traffic signals at 180th and 192nd going in at the same time around 2013 back when there were none between 171st and 204th and it was all mostly country. And some time after that, the state reducing the speed limit from 55 to 45 along this stretch with many people at the time thinking it was ridiculous to lower it in this rural area.

And this isn't the only corridor that has seen explosive growth in recent years.

Is this in addition to the one announced along 204th between Gretna and Elkhorn, or a relocation for that plan

Just was wondering if anyone know, becuase my first thought was that as long as it has been since a new Bakers / Krogers was built here that it would surprise me that they would build two new stores at or near the same time

I agree, but I do believe they're separate... no offense to Baker's, but I would imagine they would NOT want the other Fleet Farm space on 192nd & 370. Too close to the one announced for 204th... plus it would be right across the street from the ginormous HyVee. Of course, it could possibly force HyVee to reduce some of their prices at that location. I'm still pulling for a Super Target if we're lucky...

I do think an IKEA could also fit, but it would be tight and I don't think they'd build there; they'd be more inclined to build IF they ever do over by NEX or the interstate.

It is a bit interesting that Baker's hasn't dropped a new store in the area in what, 20+ years or so... and now they've announced two?

IMO, anyone who would build a Grocery Store at the FF location at Gretna Landing would be crazy. You already metioned the Hyvee, there is also the Aldi at Gretna Landing and a couple of miles down the road Walmart

I agree - even a Target with groceries could be considered a questionable move... but it's probably a secondary income generator so not as big of a concern.

I'm surprised Baker's paid $10 million for the Maple St land. They want $8 million for the 18 acres at 192nd St.

I don't think stores are going to be afraid to locate at the Gretna location. Just look at Maple, far more competitive. At 132nd and Maple you have SuperTarget, Neighborhood Market from Walmart, and Baker's (not to mention Fareway at 132nd and Fort), then Hy Vee at 156th and Maple, SuperTarget and Super Walmart at 168th, then you get out to 180th with Costco and the now the new Bakers.

Bakers 132 & Maple to Baker's 185th & Maple = 4.25 Miles
Target 168 & Maple to Target 132 & Maple = 3.33 Miles
HyVee 156 & Maple to HyVee 204 & Maple = 3.75 Miles

Yeah, that's a high concentration of stores within a very short drive.

Am I not the only one surprised to see Baker's expanding?

Admittedly, I never go there, but what is their newest store? Has to be ~ a 20 year gap.

I know that would be correct for Lakside. We moved back to Nebraska and Gretna in the spring of '99, and it was being built then.

I'd throw 72nd & Ames in there. Not sure when 90th & Fort came in. 36th & 370 came to mind. At any rate, were talking the turn of the century. Quite a bit of time.

Kinda left field. I figured Hy-vee and Walmart had a strong hold, enough where you wouldn't see another new grocery store.

72nd & Ames was built as an Albertsons.
90th & Fort has been there my entire life and I was born in the 70's.

I should correct that, *the most recently newly opened Baker's. Still going back 20+ whether they built or just moved in.

My memory is fuzzy on 90th & Fort. I've never been there. Now, correct me if I'm not remembering it accurately. Did, at one point Baker's occupy a different unit in that same shopping center? I seem to faintly remember it was previously in the bigger unit next door of the north end or the strip mall.

The last new Baker's that was built is Pepperwood in 2000. And was built by Fleming. Kroger has not built a new grocery store in Omaha since they bought Baker's in 2001.

It's nice to see them moving forward considering some of the other projects that never ended up materializing (ie, Fleet Farm for starters). The Baker's near 204th & Q St. looks to have nearly the entire exterior concrete structure up.

it's great Bakers is finally giving Elkhorn the Grocery store it has needed for well over a decade. HyVee has just been sitting on the land at Indian Creek for what, 15 years? Bakers has had theirs less than a year and is moving forward.

If you missed Grow Omaha this morning, we announced that Panda Inc (one of the local Arby’s franchisees ) has purchased the former Burger detour. It will be opening an Arby’s in its spot.

I assume a remodel, and that will be an interesting building for an Arby's
