I'd second that - I miss the old days with the Revolving Door and Musicland downstairs. The arcade/putt putt golf thing was not good. I'd go so far to say it was bad... let's put the attraction that's most likely to draw idiot kids and trouble makers in the basement.

Ever since they closed off some of the basement and the rest was allocated to Forever 21, I couldn't tell how large it should be. As a kid, I thought it was a pretty large space, but when that store opened I felt like it looked like a dungeon down there. On top of that, having four daughters that all liked Forever 21 meant we went in there fairly regularly... it was about the dumbest concept of a store/checkout system - they had two full levels of clothing, yet you could only checkout downstairs which wasn't even their main entrance. Who does that?

The prices were OK, but man I did NOT enjoy shopping in that store.

I am guessing only, but I bet the contract that they have to run the food hall is their limit, Westroads, from bringing in much of anything else in terms of food options.

OWH reports that Dillards has applied for permits regarding Westroads, so it would seem this "game changer" is out of the bag. I still don't understand the unnecessary hype - you'd think that IKEA was going in or something.

It's ridiculous.

If they were opening a second location (which obviously wouldn't make sense) and keeping the first one, then I'd see it as being a bit of "news". But to call it a game changer... it's bigger news if a smaller town like Plattsmouth got a Target. This is NOT big news.

How many pages was the OWH for that day? 4 front to back? LOL

And funny thing on Ikea, we don't really need one now that they ship to Omaha. Probably missed the boat on Ikea as well.

There used to be some weird stores on that lower level. Possibly preceding the revolving door?

The deli and revolving door lounge were pretty awesome back in the day. Musicland was near them down there too. Got pretty hammered at the revolving door doing karaoke. It was the first place in Omaha that had it and was quite popular for a time. I was working summers at Westroads then.

I don’t get the “wishlist”-like Macy’s desires. Frankly, The Dillard’s here will be nicer than a mythical Macy’s. And If it were a Macy’s instead that some are longing for here it would be just like the last version of Younker’s. It’s like wishing for the old Baker’s grocery store and getting...well a Kroger that’s called Baker’s.

It’s already been well discussed that Dillards is going into the former Yonkers space. Dillards already has a building permit. I know it was sarcasm, but Spirit Halloween already has a sign up on the old CVS at 132nd and W. Center Rd..

I did say it sarcastically, but there is Spirit Halloween somewhere at Westroads. I just checked the permits site and there was one out for Spirit.

Yeah they do. They did the same this time last year after CVS bailed on that location in May 2024..Now they’re closing their 84th and Center location.. Both CVS and Walgreens seem too be struggling..

In any case, back to Westroads/Dillards talk…

Not specific to Westroards.. but across the street, but is Ricketts still planning on opening up a restaurant on the west side of 102nd? I've not heard anything for a long time.

Not related to Westroads, but Walgreens... their newest store at 192nd & 370 stinks. I ran in there for a card and I couldn't believe how depressing that place was for being brand new. Not that Walgreens is known to have an amazing store atmosphere, but by the way the store looks, you'd think it had been there for about 20 years.

I don't get how these companies build brand new multi-million dollar stores and make them look like |expletive|.

IMO, it will be gone in less than 10 years. With grocery stores having pharmacies like the HyVee across the street, I don't see much benefit to using Walgreens. As a matter of fact, the last time I bought anything at Walgreens it was an online photo through my phone app that I had printed.

Anyone rememebr the little basebll card shop tucked away in a little closet space by one of the side entrances? My god I spent a lot of time in there in the mid-80s.

Was that the pewter/pipe tobacco place? I used to go in there as a kid and look at the displays.

I also miss the cookie shop that was at one of the ends. They had a window you could look in and watch their ferris wheel-like trays that carried the frosted cookies.

Funny side note - my brother got his head stuck in the wrought iron spindles that used to be in front of the stores that allowed you to see downstairs. Fire dept had to come out...

I think that was called David's Briar Shop (later renamed to just David's). My dad used to get his pipe tobacco there back in the 1980s. As smoking became less popular they shifted to have more of a focus on collectibles than tobacco.

You're correct - I loved the carousel they used to have... I believe it was a city park scene and there were all sorts of different things going on in it.

I was born in 84' and grew up in rural Nebraska. I remember the 80s as being very brown instead of neon(more of an early 90s thing where I came from.). Was it any different growing up in a larger city?

No it was primarily a sports card shop, which would have been 95% baseball cards at the time. I bought a '62 Topps Roger Maris there for like $8.

The sale for Dillards closed last week and construction is starting. They are currently looking at a 2027 opening date. Also, sounds like something may be announced for the Forever 21 space in the next couple weeks.

Westroads Mall Prepares for Dillard’s & Another Mystery Retailer

Grow Omaha wrote: Dillard’s plans to completely gut the long-vacant anchor space on the mall’s west end and build a 32,000 sq. ft. addition. After the expansion and renovation, the 2-story department store will total 207,800 sq. ft. A new entry will be included as part of the addition.

Because the construction project will be so extensive, the Westroads Dillard’s won’t open until 2027. Dillard’s plans to relocate its Oak View Mall department store into the Westroads space. Dillard’s has a history of using closed stores as clearance centers, but no public announcement has yet been made.
In fact, Conlon hopes to make another new store announcement in the next couple weeks, one that “will create a lot of excitement before the holidays.”

The yet-to-be-announced retailer is taking over the former Forever 21 store, a 2-level space near the mall’s center court. At 30,796 sq. ft., it’s the largest non-anchor space in the mall. The lease is going through final execution at this time. The retailer is a “family-friendly, recognizable brand” that plans to open in time for this year’s Christmas shopping season – no later than Black Friday.

Would be great if they can fill that large space that quickly - Black Friday is about two months away... I wonder what could be open that quickly that basically requires zero modifications. Whoever it is, hopefully they put cashiers on the upstairs portion this time because having to checkout in the basement is a bit goofy.

Will be interested to how permanent this location feels as it is owned by the same company that has the calendar stores that pop up in the mall around the holidays.

I've always thought those look "ok", given their temporary status. Of course as the holidays wind down and the store gets empty, it starts to look more like a pop up shop.

I'm curious how having two floors and their own escalator is going to affect how kids act in that place. It's like their own built-in amusement ride.

I've been to a few Toys R Us in other countries and they are more like a large mall kiosk. Think of the free kids play area at Oakview. No clue what we're getting in Omaha.
