Woodland Flyway at Lauritzen Gardens

Architectural Offices wrote: We have been waiting so long to talk about this project, and now it is really happening. The Woodland Flyway at Lauritzen Gardens is a new elevated boardwalk experience and entry into the Gardens. For years, pedestrians and vehicles have had to share the same path as they work their way down into the gardens. Soon, you will be able to ascend from the visitor center onto the flyway to pass through the trees, find new gardens, and see old gardens from new perspectives as you head into the heart of Lauritzen Gardens. It will be an amazing experience and will exemplify this Omaha gem as the only botanical garden along the Missouri River Bluff.

The Woodland Flyway is well underway.. and if you haven't seen Sofia's Play Garden, it's fantastic, if you're an admirer of all things horticultural like me, you'll find it's far more than a kids play space.

Increasingly, I feel like Lauritzen is every bit the world class attraction that the zoo is (really enjoyed the European car expo last weekend as well). Our city has as much philanthropic support as any.. we're seriously spoiled.

They are also sandblasting and re-painting the Big Boy up on the hill too.

We really are lucky with the financial support.. Big thanks to the Robert B. Daugherty Charitable Foundation for the conservatory. That really made it world class.

Sophia’s Play Garden is a Grand Slam Home Run. After having visited recently i can understand why it took so long to open. I don't have children but as an older adult I still found it well worth visiting. It is densely packed both with plants as well as activities to engage young people of almost any age.
The revamped conservatory building, on the other hand, seems like a mixed blessing. While I appreciate a few of the changes, essentially the Gardens stripped everything that was beautiful out of the structure, only to start again from scratch. It will take about 5 years for the new plants to grow toward maturity.
