Expect the former Millard location of Addy's to become another Good Life Bar.

Re: The Good Life Sports Bar & Grill (14110 S Street)
Someone named John Johnson posted their receipt on Nextdoor from the Good Life Sports Bar & Grill in Millard where they were charged a 3% credit card fee (infuriating, but slowly getting normalized). Here's the kicker, at the bottom of the receipt is says this:
If you use Nextdoor, here's the post: https://nextdoor.com/p/wr2CQgBFTZYx
So, it seems that you have to pay the 3% credit card fee and they won't remove it if you pay cash. It's already a bit of a problem at some restaurants where they always add the fee and if you pay cash you have to make sure they remove the fee (which many customers do not think to do, so the restaurant gets to pocket the fee). It seems Good Life has decided that everyone pays the fee no matter what.Good Life Sports Bar & Grill Receipt wrote:Tue Sep 23, 2025 5:30 pmDue to the increasing costs of credit card processing, a 3% service charge is applied to all purchases. No cash discounts are available.

Just make the price the price. If you need your wings to cost $20 for ten to cover your costs then make that the price. Don't tack on skeevy fees a la Ticketmaster. Maybe I should advertise photography for $10/session and add on a $600 convenience fee.

I saw that this AM on NextDoor. The receipt is from the Millard location. I would assume it is all of them, though
How can a business decide this is a good idea and will not alienate a number of customers, Price accordingly, and people will deal with it. Play these games and risk a large social media backlash

Is this policy clearly shown on their menu and signs when you walk in? If not at what point is this bait and switch?

I saw someone posted about this on a FB Omaha Eats group as well. I think they said it's posted, but nonetheless, if you're going to charge everybody the fee, then build it into your food prices.Linkin5 wrote: Wed Oct 01, 2025 1:22 pm Is this policy clearly shown on their menu and signs when you walk in? There's absolutely NO reason a cash-paying customer should have to pay the dedicated fee if the business is assessing it as such. Is it illegal? Probably not (I guess), but it's shady AF. As previously mentioned, add 3% to your menu prices, stop tacking on additional service costs. I rarely have cash on me and probably never enough to pay for a group of 4 people to eat dinner... so I'd be subject to the fee anyway. But if people still want to pay with cash, you will make absolutely no one happy here.
Considering you can process with Square and several other services through an app, I'm shocked a business like Good Life can't negotiate a better rate than close to 3%, unless they get blasted with unauthorized transactions and chargebacks. I'd be surprised if they're paying over 2.5% and simply rounding up to 3%. Just add it to your food prices and move on.
I won't eat there anymore anyway - the food has never been great and after the whole bugs in the kitchen thing, I'll go ahead and pass.

Not to change the subject, but as the owner of 2 different businesses, the credit card companies absolutely hose us. My rate was 2.5% on the first page of my statement, but by the time you pay all the add on charges, it was almost 6%. Just remember when you get that fancy card with 2% cash back, it is the BUSINESS, not the credit card company that is paying you.

Fair point, but lots of business-related expenses cost money but are not itemized on my receipt. Should I get a small kickback on my receipt if I don't use the restroom and thus don't use that water? If I walk do I still have to pay the portion of my bill that covers the property taxes that include the parking lot?swgiust wrote: Wed Oct 01, 2025 2:37 pm Not to change the subject, but as the owner of 2 different businesses, the credit card companies absolutely hose us. Just lump it in with the rest of the expenses that are factored into the menu prices. It's the itemization that people are outraged about. Stop itemizing it. Build it in.

Agreed - they're not helping anyone at all by showing it as a separate charge. I'd say less than 1% of customers will appreciate the fact it's clearly stated on the receipt as a credit card surcharge.ChadJK wrote: Wed Oct 01, 2025 2:41 pmFair point, but lots of business-related expenses cost money but are not itemized on my receipt. As an example, Vala's charges $43 to enter their patch on weekend nights now... if they charged me $43 PLUS another 3% because I was using a card (or even not using a card), I'd be po'ed. Just make the fee $44.50 and be done with it.

We are so screwed. I truly feel bad for honest business owners that will ultimately have to shut down as people can't afford to use their business anymore. I just canceled Xbox Gamepass today and will probably cancel several other subscription services that are raising their prices. I think that's all we can do as consumers in a capitalist society is let our money do the talking and hope companies take notice.
The Good Life can't like all this negative publicity and bringing it to others attention that will simply choose not to go there at all because of it. The business suffers and the employees suffer more. Employees make less and quit for better pay elsewhere.

This was posted on Reddit too, yet a ridiculous amount of people seem to be under the impression that the “service fee” is going to the wait staff. So of course their solution is to take it out of the tip.

I wonder if the restaurant labels it a service fee with that in mind.nebport5 wrote: Wed Oct 01, 2025 6:23 pm This was posted on Reddit too, yet a ridiculous amount of people seem to be under the impression that the “service fee” is going to the wait staff. It’s says excatly what Chad posted above, "Due to the increasing costs of credit card processing, a 3% service charge is applied to all purchases.”Louie wrote: Thu Oct 02, 2025 8:57 amI wonder if the restaurant labels it a service fee with that in mind.nebport5 wrote: Wed Oct 01, 2025 6:23 pm This was posted on Reddit too, yet a ridiculous amount of people seem to be under the impression that the “service fee” is going to the wait staff. So, yes, but also immediately says what it’s for. It was posted on Reddit under the handle of “EndTipping”.
