I little over a year ago, I made a post comparing the renderings of MoOT's facade to one of my favorite modern skyscrapers, 1144 Fifteenth in Denver.

I'm proud to say now that this tower lives up to all my expectations and looks great. Really helps bring Omaha into the 21st century with that glass.

Always thought FNBT looked more late 80s/90s when compared to other regional buildings of the era.
To each their own and I by no means hate MoO's architecture, but I actually think MoO's design will look more dated in 30 years than FNBO. I think there is going to be an eventual boredom to the blue glass towers we have seen the past decade. People will think it looks very 2010s kind of like people think Woodmen looks very 60s. FNBO with the very attractive and well proportined massing, difference in materials, and thoughtful lines I think will age really well.
I kind of agree on this. Don’t get me wrong, MoO is gonna be a great addition to the skyline and we’re lucky to get it. But FNBO has more classic architecture tones to it. One of my favorite skyscrapers is the Wells Fargo Center in Minneapolis and FNBO has aspects of that in it.
Fair point, these glass towers may age badly. Today their the new, hip thing that every "modern" city has just got to get their hands on, and tomorrow, like brutalist towers from the sixties, they are simply dated remnants of a distant time.

Also 100% agree with the comments on the FNBT. It's still my favorite tower in Omaha, and probably the local region too! I love that Wells Fargo-style design, and the facade looks great! Just think it looks more like 90s tower than a 2000s one. Mutual is definitely a 20s skyscraper, even if does end up aging poorly, like iamjacobm mentioned.
Actually, the more I see the the MoO being built the more I see how much better the actual product is turning out, compared to the initial renders
FNBO tower is like the hybrid sandwich design bringing the Woodmen angular lines with the curve intricacies of Mutual of Omaha tower.
The curved steps of the glass reflecting light give echoes to the curved FNBO tower glass panes.

The terraces create actual shadow play and depth and the steps shift light hour-by-hour giving a texture that evolves.

I see people parked all the time taking pictures of the MoO tower and people that will literally sit and admire what is being built and take pictures.

At least Omaha is not full of Woodmen towers, one of our peer cities has nothing but a "woodmen" towers filled skyline.

The MoO is showing how much of a better design it is vs Devon tower's plain glassy look, MoO will age well.

Still I am glad people are appreciating the decorative feel of traditional architecture and we can expect more traditional elements in the future.
We are seeing pushback from locals on Noddle's companies stale corporate designs and allowing other more traditional architecture firms to build Millwork Commons.
Doctor Fate wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 5:53 pm Whatever goes here could have a contemporary and modern art museum at the base, maybe some decorative arts and a history of photography exhibit. Things that wouldn’t be parallel to what Joslyn has. Mutual offices, some residential, and a rooftop restaurant and bar could make up the rest.
Yes to historical photo exhibits and historical Omaha pieces, a big no to talentless ugly toddler "art" scribbles called modern art and contemporary "art". There is a reason that I and many others that visit the Joslyn and other Museums, would rather speed through or skip the post modern "art" section. Yes there are a few exceptions but most of the toddler "art" scribbles are an insult to actual classical artists with talent.

We always start somewhere. Especially for a city like Omaha, momentum for designing projects with more traditional feels in mind will take a minute. There's so much land that people can get straight to developing so that's not a consideration. There are always ways to improve but I think a city like Omaha continues to grow in that aspect. There's a lot more projects being developed preserving those elements and surely in the future, similar efforts will follow with. There's so many things to work on at once, it'll take baby steps to get there.

And that's what I love about a city like Omaha the most. There's growth in a lot of cities but there's something special with the one in Omaha. It's growing at a rapid pace and there's so many new developments shaping what was once empty areas. New parks, new neighborhoods, they're all fixing the problem that drained the city beforehand. These types of developments will open a new chapter to pursuing them further. Better design elements, encouraging further density, etc.

Me too, I am so fond of Omaha, and it always feels like a burden to leave Omaha for some other peer city or a disgusting "third world" city here in the US, filled with drugs, needles and rats.

There's just so many festivals and events here in Omaha, they keep me hooked; seeing it a burden to visit elsewhere. Just like the 2 simultaneous concerts that happened in Heartland of America park and Gene Leahy Mall "Boomstock" on the same day, last weekend. When I take video, its like a dream everytime I see large Riverfront events of families having a fun time and feeling safe, even weekdays are like storybooks days filled with families, people are just nice here. Love my past midnight quiet strolls through downtown and the clean trails through downtown!

Other peer cities are sleepy in their urban cores, with low foot traffic and low developments in their cores. Focusing mainly on suburban expansions, makes me miss home and appreciate Omaha even more. Still peer cities are doing a good job in managing drugs, needles and keeping clean.

All that construction in the urban core is just beautiful to see, can't wait to see what they are planning for the Omaha Public Market at the Riverfront, that is stated to be built uniquely Omaha!

Mutual and FNBO look ever so close in height. Once completed, Mutual will definitely dominate.

Now you're crackin'! Excellent way to convey although not 100% accurate the actual relative heights of buildings in Omaha to each other. Now I can plainly visualize that FNBO has ceded the #1 spot to the Mutual Tower!! 8)

Veterans Hospital really adds a lot from that angle. 1-2 more highrises in the CBD would really make the skyline look a lot better from afar!

I still wish they went for a few more floors and the 700ft mark. Seeing it from the side, which is wider, it looks a bit proportionally short.

New Mutual of Omaha Tower Now the Tallest Building in Nebrask

Top off ceremony is expected to be in November.
Construction on Mutual of Omaha’s new downtown Omaha headquarters building has reached Level 44, which will be its highest occupied floor, making the building now the tallest in Nebraska.

As construction remains on track toward completion in Fall of 2026, the project has reached several significant milestones in recent weeks:

Structural steel now extends past Level 35 on all sides, marking a major step in the building’s vertical ascent and underscoring the impressive scale of the tower.
In late August, the tower crane completed its sixth and final jump, reaching its full height of 780 feet. With the crane in place, crews are guiding the top-out of the shear core and tower steel, bringing the structure closer to its ultimate height.
The final shear core concrete has been poured, officially completing all vertical concrete work.

In the last few days steel has reached the top of the core.

I’m curious to watch the crown completion. I wonder how much is pre-fabricated like the lower curtain walls.

I'm just a big fan of the layers of older buildings from the south side that the Abbott shot tends to lack

Thanks Guys. I like both locations. Abbott is better from the air. More layers and less distraction. If the abbot drive bridge was twice as tall with no traditional streetlights, it would be 10 times better. I was actually thinking about getting a roof rack on my old car and parking on the island and shooting from the roof. When I shoot it from the helicopter during the CWS, Abbott drive is perfect. Also, the traditional Abbott drive photo relies heavily on the street for a good composition, and currently that street needs cleaned and repaired.

It looks like FNBO and Mutual are going to be pretty close in height, especially with First National sitting at a little higher elevation. We won’t have the big disparity like Oak city has. Nice picture.

Perfect opportunity for someone to play Devil's advocate in convincing governing authorities of MOO that it wouldn't take much to expand the non-functional portion of the crown another 23 feet to top out at 700'.... While the purpose of utility would be null, the significance of human perception based on numbers and key factors giving the impression of success and the effective societal social influence cannot be overlooked. Psychology plays heavy into an individual's decision on whether or not to do business. Marketing isn't based on convincing people to think rationally. It's about convincing consumers they can be a part of something great AND that you can give them something the competition can't offer. It's smoke and mirrors, but how many of us would get excited about the announcement that the MOO tower was expanded to 700'? Probably would have a similar effect on countless others who don't even participate on this forum. What would need to be considered in regard to potential issues of structural load/integrity and cost? Just day dreaming.

I don’t think it works like that. Especially wirh the structure itself already about 90% complete.

Better for local officials to concentrate on drawing more businesses here, which would lead to more jobs and development.

A nice some what truncated spire that would be backlit from inside by green and blue soft LED's. A 23 footer would be a piece of cake. Oh and don't forget the blinking "cherry" on top for the FAA! C'mon board members think outside the box as you'll have to admit this monolith does look rather bland to be honest.
