I actually like how saturated they are throughout the day. I'd much rather watch the local news any given moment of the day than some talk show, judge show, gossip show, game show, etc. To me, NBC/WOWT airs nothing good but the news, and football.

7.5 hours of news air time and probably 30 minutes of actual original content

WOWT is also streaming a rather casual newscast from 7:00 - 7:30am.

This is a smart move by KETV. Bill Schammert is going to be a nice addition. I like Bill…

Saw on Northpine.com that Sinclair has relaunched a local newscast on Fox 42, was this produced by high schoolers? Who's watching local news, yet alone at 11pm?

Good lord that is utterly awful. North Platte/Lincoln and these kids sound like they are reading from a queue card. Why can’t they just produce a newscast locally like a big boy or just not have one? I’d watch a well-done 11:00 (PM) show— I’m used to being on EST for work, but not this joke of a production. Maybe they should rebrand as Fox Nebraska and an hire actual news team and broadcast from an actual Omaha studio? /rant

It's the same reason why Big Six runs 10-12 hours of localish news--it's a platform for commercials.

That's fantastic in a train wreck sorta way. I don't know what's better -- the harsh lighting washing out the anchor's face, or the fact that they started to peel the warning labels off both support bars of the TV stand, decided it was too much work, and just said the heck with it and left them there with the corners peeled down

Good lord- the awful shot framing and horrible lighting distracted me from those stickers and the fact the stand is even in the shot.

I really liked the "across Nebraska" banner that identified the interviewee as a Nebraskan. Well, no s*it, lol.

At least they are trying to get back to some assemblance of local when many are cutting. Might want to give them a little slack

Radio, but not TV

KFAB has been teasing an announcement tomorrow (Wed) about a change coming to KFAB, the last two mornings. No hints about what it is other than "exciting" and "good"

Does anyone have any guesses or wishes on what it might be? I know that two-part questions likely have different answers.

They got new carpet in the studio. They were installing it last time I was there. Probably very exciting when you have been walking on the old stuff for a couple decades.... :D

Gary Sadlemyer announced he was retiring as of December 12. He will still be available to fill in. Scott Voorhees will take his position on the morning show.

Seems like KETV's feed to YouTube TV is being impacted by Disney's fight with YTTV.

They went off the air last night. I switched to YTTV when DirectTv had their dispute last year or so. Hopefully it does not last long.

And the Disney/YouTube TV squabble is over.

Just noticed that tonight. Main thing I watch ABC for is the Sunday extended forecast, and whatever football they might have on along with ESPN. Overall it wasn't that bad of a week without them.

I saw her Sunday morning, wearing a man's dress shirt and seemingly nothing else. I was ready to decide one way, but then I realized that there's no reason on earth why male anchors have to wear a suit-and-tie. I recalibrated my opinion.

She does a nominal job in a vapid business. In that, I support her.

Is she leaving or something? Only been there about a year.

I remember the first time I saw her on. I just heard her voice at first, and not to be mean or anything, I thought "Euhh, who's this new girl?" Her voice pierced my ear drums. Then before cutting to commercial, I saw her the first time. "OH! Okay, okay, I can get used to the voice" I did, haha.

Always funny when her and Eddie Messel do a show. She's gotta be pretty tall, and then she wears heels :thumb: Doing Eddie kinda dirty there.

My first thought was Dish? That thing is still around? I'm guessing its mostly rural customers?

To be what I believe is more correct, Gray Media pulled all its stations from Dish over contract demands that include a $100 Million increase in fees that Gray is demanding for their stations to be broadcast via Dish

A lot of what the 3 major local TV stations air in terms of morning, afternoon and evening newscasts can be streamed online. I recently discovered that I can watch WOWT’s 10 pm newscasts virtually live on my TV in Puerto Vallarta. And I catch the morning TV news and weather segments virtually live while having my morning coffee. I can actually watch many of the Gray Media stations on the same media platform. Technology really is something.

All local stations are heavily investing in streaming anymore. The next big thing is supposed to be NextGen TV which combines over the air broadcasting with internet content but no one's really that excited about it, not to mention it would mean buying a new TV with that capability or some sort of tuner. Unless it's mandated, it's a hard pass for me personally.

I set my Hulu to an Omaha ZIP code so I can watch Omaha locals from Houston. That came in handy on 26 April 2024.

Matt Serwe just announced he's moving to Minneapolis

And now he's coming back, this time to WOWT. Their titles are messed up there, but it is unclear to me what this actually means as his title was Roehler's.
Serwe will join Senior Chief Meteorologist Rusty Lord and Meteorologist Emily Roehler at the WOWT weather desk in April as our new Chief Meteorologist, bringing weeknight viewers a first alert to weather developments in the area.
