A steakhouse in Crescent, Iowa. It opened in 1955 by Jake Brummer. Previous occupant was the Black Glove before Jake bought it and turned it into Pink Poodle. It was most recently owned by Doreen & John McNeil.

Is this place still open? Their Facebook page stopped getting updated in September 2025 and Google says it's "Temporarily Closed." Others are saying it's permanently closed. The owner passed away in June 2025. I don't know if it's gone forever, just temporarily closed while they get back on track with a new owner, or what.

I went periodically over the years and always enjoyed the experience.

My last meal at the Pink Poodle was at least 30 years ago. I recall the restaurant being uber kitschy, with lots of creepy dolls on display. They were known for their prime rib, and served it up in ridiculously large portions. Back in the day some friends from my college years and I drove up to Crescent and had dinner there, and we all ordered the prime rib, and not the smallest cut. Each one of us ate so much that I think we all got sick from the experience. I’ve never ordered a prime rib meal since.

At Thanksgiving dinner, I talked to some of my extended family from Crescent and they said that there is a new owner now that the previous owner had passed away, but it’s barely open and hanging on by a thread and really need some help and a lot of cleaning. They said it’s only open a couple days a week and if you drove by, you wouldn’t even notice that it was open.

The CB newspaper has a story link on their Facebook page that I cannot read since I do not subscribe, but the headline and comments state that the Pink Poodle has closed after 70 year.s

It is permanently closed. The owner Doreen died back in 2019 and her husband John died in 2025. I happen to know some of the family.
