Saw this in the paper

Voodoo Taco plans a new location near 25th and Farnam Streets. The restaurant, which will open next week, ...

Their midtown crossing location has some liquor licence compliance issues.

Looked like more of a rumor at that post. Plus not in voodoo taco thread. :banger: :banger:

I ate once at the outlet mall location. I was surprised how good it was.

It’s funny, I tried the outlet mall location, but had the opposite reaction.

My opinion of almost all of the eateries at Nebraska Crossing is that they are all the worst versions of themselves. If a restaurant has a dozen locations in the metro area you'll have your worst experience at their Nebraska Crossing location.

YMMV

I was wondering when this was going to happen, ever since they opened the spot in the Old Market.

I think we all knew both wouldn’t last. I suppose the O.M. location gets more foot traffic, but the amount of times I go by there and see nobody in there I wouldn’t bet on this location for the long haul either. They did finally put up their own sign and removed the Michael’s neon(sadly) which is understandable but now I’m wondering if they just moved the one from 25th?

They quickly expanded and then the owner passed away.

I think about as many Voodoo Taco restaurants have closed as have opened. I’ve only eaten at two of their locations (both have since closed). I actually liked their tacos, though I thought they were overpriced.

I saw that as well....to be honest, I am not sure how they have stayed open and even expanded. Their prices seemed pretty steep for what it was.

I tried them when they first opened and gave them a couple of chances. Not bad, but not worth what $$$ they wanted. I could get as good or better food elsewhere for a better price.

Yes, they had some really inventive tacos and really loaded them full. Unfortunately, they just weren't priced at what people were expecting to pay for tacos. They were another restaurant that when they came to town everyone bragged them up and then years later nobody had anything nice to say about them and would deny they ever liked them. Weird.

Another Aksarben eatery bites the dust. Just like everyone else, they were good, but overpriced and I think I only ate there when my company was footing the bill.

Isn't another one of them out at NEX? Wonder how Yates handles getting stiffed on rent (I mean he can't complain too much since he has a history of not covering his own bills).

To be honest, I have no idea if Voodoo is caught up, behind, etc. However, when businesses tend to shutter overnight, it's not under optimum conditions.

I think we tried them once at NEX and was not impressed. Quite pricey and I didn't think it was that great.

Yes, they were at NEX too. Not sure if they had closed sooner or if they were still open untill yesterday. When I looked at the NEX website yesrtday there were still on the map, but they were gone from the list of businesses at the mall already. In the alphabetical list of store logos, there was just a blank where they would have been.

Voodoo Taco had a great idea, and a catchy name, and when they first opened they offered very tasty food. But I always thought their pricing was steep. They opened and closed so many locations that it was sort of like Whack-a-Mole. Something clearly sucked in their business model.
I realize I’m spoiled being able to eat a huge variety of tacos for just a dollar or two each down in Mexico, but paying $4, $5, $6 or more apiece just ruins my appetite. A tortilla costs slightly more than nothing, as does a smattering of onion, cilantro and radish. The most expensive protein, shrimp, costs out at a fraction of a dollar. This isn’t caviar or foie gras. Tacos on US menus seem pretty darn close to little licenses to print money. Add a dime’s worth of rice and beans and charge the customer $10-$12 and a restaurant owner ought to be sitting pretty,

I think I have been to a Voodoo Taco 3 times total. I feel like I was probably a target demo (male millenial ha), but boy it really didn’t do much for me.

I knew they were going in the Farnam space, but they’re ALSO taking the Voodoo Taco slot in the Old Market?

I know - kinda crazy to open a totally new concept (it's a local place, right) in two different spots without knowing how they're going to go. We're lucky if we hit the Old Market once a year. Too far and honestly it doesn't offer really much of anything we can get elsewhere without the traffic and parking hassles. I like the atmosphere, but being down there at night with our kids is not something I really even consider doing, TBH.
