I'm not sure who owns the Burger King in Red Oak and Shenandoah, but both have closed within the last couple of weeks.

The Burger King in Fremont at 2005 E 23rd closed. I believe it just happened last Monday

As far as I know, the Fremont BK at Broad St & 23rd St is still open. This is the original Fremont location, and I know it was already there in the 80's

One of the Facebook food lovers groups had a post that also stated that the 30th & Forest Lawn location is also closing.

I do not know when this happened, but the Missouri Valley location has no sign and looked like it was closed too.

The Burger King in Fremont was built somewhere in the mid-to-late 1990s and is comparatively newer than the one that they didn't close. I don't understand why they put two Burger Kings basically right next to each other, but they did. The last few times I was in there, it was very run-down for being built 30 years ago. However, it was built 30 years ago.

I had been in both in the last six months. The one that was closed sure had been neglected.

I remember in the 80's when the one that stayed open had an qauarium in it. IT was to the right side, around the corner from the order counter. It was bit. It was remodeled and removed in the late 80's, I believe. About 10 years later, we lived in St. Joseph, Missouri, for a few years, and the one near Belt Hwy and Fredrick was the same design. IT was remodeled and removed during the time we were in St Joe

Yesterday, my dad and I went by the Missouri Valley's BK closer. Someone is doing a big clean out with that one. All the signs and even the drive thru broad is gone.

There was a dumpster with the kid's playground from this location and another dumpster with metal sticking out.

Cleaout is happening in Fremont, too, with a big dumpster outside and cars in the lot.

I searched on Google and it's marked as permanently closed. That goes along with this other list:

175th & West Center Road: Permanently closed.
7606 North 30th Street: Closed February 2026.
11325 W Dodge Rd: Closed as of early 2026.
4460 Dodge St: Closed.
5222 S 138th St: Closed.
2615 S 177th Plz: Closed.
2620 S 90th St: Closed.
4202 D St: Closed.
7307 Jones St: Closed.

I'd have to say, they must not have many fans. Only thing I cared for at BK were their breakfast croissanwiches and the Italian chicken sandwich that was unfortunately very limited. The last two times I was able to get that sandwich they both came out cold and this was after sitting at the window for about 5-7 minutes and no other cars in line. Not sure what they were doing that took the time because cooking my sandwich couldn't have been one of them! LOL

Maybe someone like In and Out should come into our market and do a "mass development" and take over all of these vacated shops. :)

I suppose it should be noted that there's still something like 30 operating Burger Kings in the Omaha metro area.

That S. 90th has been gone 20 years. And it's still an empty lot.

Seriously? I would not have thought we had that many before they started shutting them down. If there are currently 30 BKs in Omaha, we must have almost 100 Starbucks stores.

That's a great point. If you had asked me, I would have guessed with all the ones closing in the last year or so that the number was close to single digits...

Generally speaking, I know burger king is not tops on people's lists, and I wouldn't say it is *my* favorite either, but I'll give credit where it is due: the west broadway location in CB has generally never let me down. Fries are hot, buns aren't stale, toppings aren't skimped. I'd put the burgers ahead of McDonald's, fries aren't as good as McD's, but a lot better than I used to remember them being. I think the whopper is a great sandwich, even with shrinkflation occurring.

I think BK's biggest problem is they try to be too many things. They have had some awesome sandwiches (others boggle my mind...like the whopper with the black bun) but don't keep them for long enough. If they just focused on being really good at only a few things, it'd make the overhead lower and quality better.

The last time I had a satisfying meal at a BK Ronald Reagan might have been president. Not exaggerating.

I was a big fan of the spicy BeefAmerica patties.

But yes, also, not my tops of the list, but I have never been disappointed with the quality of the burger. Normally go to 120th and Center or 144th Center, always been good.

Shaq Pack and the Soughdough King were/are fantastic.

The late elder Simmonds must be spinning in his grave seeing how franchise operators have run their former stores into the ground after Simmonds Restaurant Management got out of the BK business.

Better question.. Does anyone from corporate pay attention to the sagging sales, Google Reviews, or run down state of the stores? Assuming someone from corporate actually visits from time to time. They can reinvent the Whopper all they want, it's not going to bring back disappointed patrons.

They seem to be a textbook example of how not to maintain a once popular business: allow your restaurants to become dirty and run down; fail to adequately train (and pay) your employees, who are the face of your company; and overcharge for your food. There are too many better options out there for people, and they will soon be spending their money where it is better appreciated.

Agreed - I assume they're simply so large that they just don't care.

I think what I find to be the most interesting is that I continue to see them pushing millions on TV campaigns (saw a couple ads last night for some new Whopper thing); yet they don't support current stores.

Not sure when they hired their latest CEO but I'd have to see they're not working out.

How many owners has BK had? That's part of the problem. Under Pillsbury they were fine. Grand Metropolitan was the beginning of the downturn. At least 5 or 6 since Grand Metropolitan went belly up.

I can see why BKs all over Omaha are closing. We went to the one on Galvin in Bellevue last night. Only ordered 2 kids meals and a combo. It took almost 20 minutes to make the food and there was no one there. The kids meals came out without the toy (which disappointed my kids) and the buns for the hamburgers were the driest I've ever had. Thankfully I used the app for discounts, but that was almost $20 of food at normal prices and it wasn't worth more than $5 total. The workers there didn't act like they wanted to be there at all either. Not to mention, almost every table in the place was dirty, but that seems to be the commonplace in the fast food industry these days.

I always joke that nobody ever loved working a fast food job. What has changed is that earlier generations would at least act like they liked being there and liked their customers because acting that way was a part of the job. Apparently, not anymore.

I attribute some of that to many fast food restaurants having kiosks and/or an app for placing orders. Consequently, to save labor costs the dedicated employee that used to stand at the front counter to take orders, keep condiments filled, and keep the dining room clean is no longer on the schedule. The employees that are there don't even notice or have a "not it" attitude.

Don't doubt that for one sec. It comes down to a thing of pride, but most prob have the attitude that I am not getting paid enough to do all this.

I know when I worked fast food, I liked to go out and clean tables bc it gave you a break from the small kitchen area. Not to mention, the more you don't keep it clean, the dirtier it gets and then people start leaving all their trash on the tables, etc.

Heck yeah, the two best jobs in fast food were washing dishes and cleaning the dining room. It got you away from everyone else and you could get in the zone.

The BK property on 114th & Dodge has been purchased by Taqueria El Ray. So probably a new restaurant. No new permits are listed for the parcel.

This was announced quite a while ago and while I never see any activity there, there are a bunch of stickers that have appeared on the back door on the southwest corner of the building. Probably 6 or 8 of them.

Not reallk BK related, but does anyone know if Abelrado's will open in the former BK on 4202 D Street? They bought the land/building almost a year ago. No permits since last December. Might be another dropped plan like the 114th/Center Ozark Meats location.
