Sinkhole at 67th & Pacific

Post by locoluke »

A sinkhole has opened up in the westbound lanes of Pacific on the approach to the intersection with 67th. Looked like a Ram 1500 and a Jeep Cherokee were almost entirely swallowed by it. I was not able to get a picture of it.

Right where this happened, there is a 9' Diameter Pipe that takes the water from the Creek in Elmwood Park down to the Papio Creek.

Yep, first thing I thought as well. Pretty much exactly where youd expect one if there was.

Here in Mexico we need the narcos to burn busses in order to stop traffic on major streets. Omaha has found a way to accomplish the same while cutting out the middle men.

Haha I have been thinking of a non rude way to ask if you were in PV the past couple days, feels like the opportune time to ask that.

I can’t remember where this picture came from, but it does appear as though the cavity under the road extends further north than the current extent of the sinkhole.

Pedantic- That's looking south. I'd assume they'll have to close out Pacific entirely there to cut out a significant portion, settle the ground and repave.

lol, thank you. I've somehow gotten into the habit of getting my norths and souths backwards.

They're going to fill the hole with another datacenter.

Look at this AI Garbage!!! What's the point of taking an already dramatic photo and then running it through AI?

Some more pictures from a class field trip to see the hole. The cavity doesn’t really extend very far south past where the pavement collapsed, but it looks like that on camera because of the lighting.

They replaced this water main shutoff valve or at the least access cap to it today. This is in the northwest corner of the intersection, about 100 feet due west of the sinkhole.

No pics, but there are crews out bright and early today working on the sinkhole. Several dump trucks and people in the hole making repairs.

Pacific was closed for the work being done.

Looks like they repaired the broken main and partially filled the hole.

Let me just say that the speed with which this was fixed makes the 16th street sinkhole (and other utility work) timeline(s) even more confusing.

I don't think it's that confusing when the 16th street sinkhole had to contend with property owners and it wasn't blocking a main roadway nearly completely. I'd assume they got some engineers on it too that decided that it wasn't posing a threat to have it done as soon as possible. Kind of an apples to oranges comparison due to all factors.

As Stan mentioned, the 16th Street sinkhole has waiting on the property owners of one of the buildings. They needed to fix something with their foundation before the hole could be filled.
