IKEA - Gretna
I told you I’d come with something good.
IKEA is coming to Gretna. North of the outlet mall adjacent to I-80. I do not know timeline associated. It will not be the full scale one, but more likely on par with the small footprint store that was just announced in Tulsa recently,
There is more stuff coming I’ll see what I can find out.
I’m 85% on this rumor from the sources.

Wouldn't that be more west? I'm assuming this would be part of the Woodsonia development with the Amphitheater?

I was thinking this piece here to the north east (in Blue). They just annexed this piece and announced an interchange at 204th (East side of the triangle).nebport5 wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 10:49 pm Wouldn't that be more west? I thought that might be the other possibility(North-East). So in this scenario would it be an extension of NeX?Brad wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 10:56 pmI was thinking this piece here to the north east (in Blue). Re: IKEA - Gretna
Having been to the new IKEA store in Huntsville, the small format store is a pretty big disappointment. You go through a one direction maze just like you do in the big stores, but it’s much more compact and crowded. The full size restaurant that they advertise is in the back of the store and it’s very small. It’s no bigger than the place in the full size stores where you can go to buy a pizza slice, a hotdog, or an ice cream cone. You order your food on a self serve kiosk, just like at a McDonald’s. There’s seating for probably 30 people at best, so there’s lots of people standing around waiting for a table. The store restroom was in the restaurant, so if you’re sitting there eating, there’s going to be a continuous stream of people walking past your table. The store staff is very limited, checkouts I believe were all self serve, and store hours are 11am to 7pm. Personally, I don’t see why people go crazy over IKEA, but they do, and the store in Huntsville has generated a lot of traffic to the strip mall where they’re located. I’m sure it would be the same situation in Nebraska.

That would make sense. I must have missed the 204th St announcement. Do you have anything? Limited access like I Street?Brad wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 10:56 pmI was thinking this piece here to the north east (in Blue). Do you think the traffic will be a persistent issue after some of the newness wears off?OmahaOmaha wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 5:27 am Having been to the new IKEA store in Huntsville, the small format store is a pretty big disappointment. Re: IKEA - Gretna
I believe it will. Both Huntsville and Omaha have lots of tourist. I believe Omaha has over 14 million per year, and Huntsville approaching 5 million. When looking for things to do while in the area, I believe a lot of them are going to head to IKEA. Here in Huntsville, sports tourism is a real big deal. When there’s big tournaments in town, which seems like it’s about every weekend, people tend to go shopping around here between games. I think IKEA, the Lego store, REI, and the newly opened L.L. Bean are big hits with tourist, and will continue to drive high traffic.riceweb wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 7:16 amDo you think the traffic will be a persistent issue after some of the newness wears off?OmahaOmaha wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 5:27 am Having been to the new IKEA store in Huntsville, the small format store is a pretty big disappointment. Re: IKEA - Gretna
Our family personally loves visiting an IKEA store on occasion - however, it's a bit disappointing to hear they're only planning on the small format store. If what OmahaOmaha is saying is true, then it's going to be a mess for probably a full year or more in our area. I feel our population will love it, but that means crazy crowds, long lines and a lot of frustration.
Also, if they only open the small format store, that means they probably wouldn't plan on the standard format anytime soon.
It's kinda like the LEGO store - I feel ours at NEXT is too small. It's crazy busy and difficult to even look around in there, especially on weekends. I'm glad they're here, but when it's frustrating to shop at, it makes it less enjoyable.
In the end, I'll mark it up as a win if it turns out to be true. Just wish it was their normal concept.

Re: IKEA - Gretna
Sweet. It would be nice to have the big store, but I am fine with a smaller one if it gets this to the market. We go to IKEA a decent amount as we go through KC a lot. It is nice for decor/bedroom/bathroom/kitchen items. For instance we have to buy 15 plastic baggies for my family anytime we go. It will be good to have the option.
From a macro view, this is great for Gretna and that corridor. IKEA and Buc-ees are huge anchors that will pull tons of traffic. This should only bring in more businesses to the area. Hopefully companies not currently in Omaha. This area is gonna be quite different in 5-10 years.

Re: IKEA - Gretna
Now they just need a real amusement park (sorry to those that love FunPlex). I know the economics aren't great for them, so I wouldn't count on it happening.
I'm guessing the luxury wing that Yates was trying to hype up for NEXT isn't happening? Honestly, he's been crickets for the past year or more. I don't think he has anything to do with the land that the IKEA would be going on if it happens, so he's probably not thrilled about that. However, that store would certainly bring heavy traffic and IKEA will not really be competing with anything at NEXT (I suppose one could try to argue Home Goods sells furnishings and home decor, but they're not on the same playing field, IMO).

This area is perfect for something unique. I don't think (some) of Yates ideas are bad, he is just full of it and throwing |expletive| against the wall. Amusement park, NASCAR Track, NHL Stadium, etc. The area is prime to be similar to something like Legends in KC. Hopefully they are able to get something cool. Im fine with it just being a lot of retail, but it would be nice to have some sort of attraction.djc311 wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 9:30 am Now they just need a real amusement park (sorry to those that love FunPlex). I believe Yates has acquired the farmland between your two shaded areas on the N side of the road, inside Nebr Crossing. This supposedly happened after the owner passed away, who would not sell to him, and then the family did. Last holiday season, they parked on this land for some of the busy days which confirms that there was a changeBrad wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 10:56 pmI was thinking this piece here to the north east (in Blue). The new interchange with I-80 is at 192nd - viewtopic.php?t=23288
This development would likely be west of 204th based on what is being said here.

Re: IKEA - Gretna
I thought maybe they suddenly decided to put in another one because of all the developments in the area.
The one recently announced was originally envisioned to be at 180th years ago, but eventually moved to 192nd, and Meridian put in place to shift traffic from 180th to 192nd. I had heard 180th had too much obstacles due to development that already existed and I'm guessing also Valas.
I had heard 168th was another one considered but that one didn't move forward.
Back to IKEA - while not a full big store, this is still a pretty good get and that area is on fire (and not because of dry conditions

From the original rumor, it doesn't sound like it's by the new interchange but right by Nebraska Crossing. So it shouldn't be dependent on that completing.djc311 wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 1:48 pm Wonder when an official announcement could be made? Of the 2026 IKEA small format store openings, only one store is new construction, and that store is in Rockwall, TX. At 108,000 sq ft, it will also be the largest small format store.

I realize it's only been a few weeks, however I figured I'd check in and ask if there's been any additional movement or developments related to this? It's not been mentioned in any local media nor on Grow Omaha, so I have to imagine it's in very early stages (perhaps not even a signed deal yet?).
I think if it happens that it's a big win for the market and state. Not driving 6 hours round trip to visit one will be nice.

Detroit has a large format store on the west side and now IKEA is opening a small format store on the northeast side of the metro.

Re: IKEA - Gretna
any news on this as far as if it's moved to 100% and is in design stages? Or, perhaps land still hasn't been transferred and they're still negotiating?
We were out at NEX this past Saturday and it was quite busy. Still not a fan of their food options... first off, they can't keep most of the restaurants in place. We ended up eating at Paradise which was surprisingly good IMO. I never ate at Regency or the VP location. To me, Paradise seemed like a step up from Panera.
We did quite a bit of shopping, getting stuff for my daughter's first year of high school. Although it's technically no longer known as the outlet mall, I am glad to see stores like Nike and Adidas still offering some considerable discounts on certain products.
