This is retarded. Why do you want to take people off of the street? It is a necessity in places like Minneapolis, but we don't have the climate to require this. If you take people off of the street, then it will not be visible to those traveling by that it is a vibrant place to be. If you don't see a lot of people or the destinations, what will make you want to go there?

BTW, I know I am an a$$.

They have started the demolition of the old houses and apartments between 40th and 42nd streets for the new CHS Building at UNMC. Here is the internet page with the details of the new building, the video clip at the bottom is pretty good. With this new building and the new Durham Research Center UNMC is reshaping mid-town Omaha. I can also say there is going to be more to come.

This project has been in the works for several years - I think i started a thread a year ago about it. Drawings have been in the Wittson Hall entrance for some time. Originally they planned to close off 42nd street and make it a pedestrian walk like Creighton did with California. Here is a schematic:

From what I have heard, they are planning to make 42nd street a greenway road and will cut it down to one lane each way and add trees and landscaping along it.

I like the building also, but I am even more glad to see the greenspace. UNMC has become so dense over the last 10 years that the campus really needed some greenspace and an area to enjoy the views/vistas/height/architecture.

Regents approve construction of second research tower

Hopefully this will help raise UNMC's Research ranking by US News (They're 11th in the nation for Primary Care medical education). As far as I can tell, they're currently not ranked for research....for comparision, U of Colorado is 26th, University of Iowa is 30th,
