There is a tower crane base in place at 11th and Nicholas Street.

Besides the tower crane photo I just added to the previous post, I also noticed this new artwork installed at the Dizzy Mule. Those are statues and not the artists! Very cool!

Seriously? I know I was out of town a lot this winter and only went to 2 Creighton games, but how did I miss those?

haha, not quite sure but sometime back in Nov/Dec I believe. Believe it or not I think the OWH had a story about Millwork and posted the pictures, otherwise I might not have seen them.

The vertical part of the crane for the new garage is very noticeable now. No arm up yet, but fun to see another crane up DT.

I wonder if the number of floors has changed with the increased possibility of the Union Omaha stadium development? Just asking because the tower is looking tall compared to everything else in Millwork.

I hope they pay local artist to design a large scale metal art installation to decorate the parking structure!

In a perfect world the city could have partnered with a developer to put housing above the garage like they did in Blackstone but I think one of us that keep an eye on public docs would have noticed it.

Hmm, hopefully that's not the long-term goal for the plot.

The Academy Bar that is going into the Nova Apartment Building will be a Mavern Social concept that is described as a classic European-inspired public house with a modern sports bar. Heard there trying to be open for the CWS.

Not to sound ignorant but what would be different than a traditional sports bar?

It’s a White Lotus version of one. Underwhelming with lots of cut corners.

Don't forget the paved road in the middle of the unfinished project.

White Lotus owns Mavern Social? Regardless, I have to disagree. They build a solid drinking establishment.

Was doing some browsing on LinkedIn this afternoon, and came across this photo from a recent tour ULI Nebraska took of Millwork commons, showing future plans for Millwork including multiple new buildings and a couple streetcar stops

i could for sure see it being a destination for a little different kind of crowd than the normal hipster vibe some developments are seeking (i don't mean that in a negative way). Just that it may draw more folks in who are inspired by art/creation/etc, and enjoy watching a good soccer match to boot. I have several friends who are artist-types that enjoy soccer (specifically the english premiere league) and this would be right up their alley.

Curious what the red highlighted sections are? They seem rather random.

I think they're highlighting the "Promenade" as a kind of feature unto itself. A perhaps pedestrian or pedestrian-friendly walk from Millwork Commons to the stadium that on gamedays soccer fans would like to use to parade themselves to the stadium.

It could be just a pedestrian-only mall lined with bars and restaurants, which I think would be a good idea.

Yeah maybe the red lines on buildings are supposed to be storefronts?

But they don't line up with existing storefronts. Mastercraft doesn't have a storefront on the south side. Hello's are on the west side. Will Millwork Garage have a retail component? Ashton is missing a red line on the west side.

I think they are potential mural/artwork locations.

when i was a kid, this area always seemed kind of scary to me. Didn't seem like there were many streetlights, not much activity...almost like a ghost town. The turn around down here over the last few decades has been incredible, and it's happened organically. With the the bars/restaurants/hotels/soccer stadium nearby, this area offers so much.

Same here, I even remember driving through the area about 20 years ago and thinking how much potential it had.

I'm old enough, scary was driving around Jobbers Canyon. 🤣 What a turn downtown indeed.

I remember doing a 5k run back in 2006 that was organized by Hot Shops. There were a few abandoned brick warehouse buildings nearby that had most of the windows busted out. I was like..."wow these buildings have so much potential if fixed up." Plus, there were a ton of vacant lots for infill. I saw the potential. I'm glad it's becoming such an incredible district.

Side Note: I wish they would bring back that 5K run. Started in Millwork Commons,. Run South past the convention center. Up Capitol. and turn by the Civic Auditorium (yes, it was still there). Then through Creighton Campus as you return to Millwork Commons.
