i'm glad that los charritos is stickin around. Everyone i know that's been there has said it's pretty good stuff. The only unfortunate thing is that chipotle is going to draw more people than it will, and it may create some struggles for them

There will be an open house meeting in the Council Bluffs Library June 17th from 4-8 pm about the council bluffs linkages study. Additionaly, on the study website there is an online engagement form that can be filled out.

Luckily, the City Council has enough smarts. She is on the war path with them because they don't vote like she wants them to . She is a disaster!!!!

Steve Jensen was there tonight pitching the pros of a streetcar line to her.

They had everyone rate each alternative on a scale from 1-5. As of 7 PM, West Broadway BRT was by the most popular option. The streetcar alternative was expectedly polarizing, but I was a little surprised that 1st Ave BRT also seemed pretty polarizing.

What I personally want to see is transit on the 1st Ave corridor and a new bridge over the Missouri.

I'm pro-streetcar. Honestly, I'd be curious to see what the viability/expected usage would be. I just don't know that there's enough to warrant a streetcar connection right now. Sure, BRT could more easily be implemented, but even then, I couldn't imagine the demand being high enough to necessitate an extension. I see nearly empty buses on Broadway daily, so it doesn't seem like there's demand enough even for it right now.

A big part of the bet with building out transit on this corridor is that it will stimulate development. There’s a LOT of opportunity for brownfield development along First Ave. I think that’s part of why building on a dedicated ROW along First Ave. is particularly important.

The online public engagement is open through July 5, and I encourage everyone with an opinion to complete it. It’s pretty quick. I’ve also linked the boards for each alternative:

while i very much agree with transportation being an engine for development, there are a lot of factors that council bluffs struggles with by comparison. I live in the west end of Council Bluffs, born and raised. But I will admit that the things that people would want to come to CB for simply don't exist in the area (retail, dining, entertainment). Yes, there are dining options, but virtually all are fast food. Retail is non-existent, save for autoparts stores, vape shops, and a couple rent-to-own places, and there is no entertainment draw. Could these things come with developing 1st ave? Sure. But it's a substantial investment for both things to occur and the mayor just doesn't seem on board with it (much less find how to pay for it when the tax base on the iowa side is way smaller and would likely require some tax to pay for it). Iowa west is always brought up as a source of funding, but i sincerely doubt they would be able to be the sole financier for something that big

I noticed that the owner of Tokyo Sushi has purchased the whole corner of 28th and Broadway. The old Jonesys Corner that just closed, the two buildings next to it, and the house behind it with a massage parlor and parking lot. Wonder if we could be getting a new Sushi Place in CB?

what do you have in mind? There are real restaurants here, and they are some good ones, too. Are you thinking something high end? Something niche? Council bluffs just isn't the same as Omaha in terms of population and demographics to have the same kinds of offerings you have across the river. Not saying we don't have those same groupings of people, it's just on a much smaller scale and thus more difficult to support the kind of variety you may be thinking. There are also many folks that just won't cross the river to come to something here when they would drive past several areas that have similar offerings along the way.

Puerto Vallarta Mexican Restaurant announced that they are closing there doors on September 30th.

To answer your question above ^^ I think there are some decent restaurants in CB but what its lacking is just a little diversity. I feel like its got a lot of fast food joints and mom and pop bar & grills that feel like your sitting in someones basement serving Sysco food and microwaved veggies. Would love for some farm to table/healthy food options or a nice cocktail bar on the riverfront or in the loess hills with a view to pop up. I was in Sioux City a few weeks ago and was surprised by the food scene up there and overall vibe of the city. In Sioux City you have Downtown, The Hotels/Casinos, and the Riverfront all connected and walkable where Council bluffs you have the Interstate and Railroads that almost divides the City and kind of feels like there all growing separately. Would have been interesting to have some of the hotels gone to downtown CB and helped development there.

Some new Business opened on Broadway this week.

Blend a popular Drink place that is currently off of Madison Ave is opening a second location at 623 W Broadway next to Palm Beach tan.

Jersey Mikes Has also opened a second location in CB at 2200 W Broadway.

Bridgets Bookshelf is a new book store opening at 148 West Broadway.
