If we're all rubbing genie lamps, I wish the first two levels were retail (at least on the inner part) and put these offices above them, more like Aksarben.

I see having publicly accessible spaces underneath Police HQ to be a massive security problem.

I was told by an employee that when they they showed them this rendering a few weeks ago that they also showed them a rendering for a new Life Time Fitness opening next to this.

A Life Time in this development would be great.

Disappointed by the move to 72nd but the design looks nice just wish they didn’t have all those windows and have more security features. Prime spot for protestors to break in and set the place ablaze. Imagine that embarrassment for the city.

Well, 72nd and Dodge is a well-known spot for protests in Omaha. Having a police and fire headquarters there would make it a prime target for protestors, who could cause graffiti, property damage, and even arson attacks. Based on the design I see, the building doesn’t appear to be adequately protected against the current threat environment.

But the way you describe it, it's like people are walking around just looking for things to bash every hour of the day. Seems rather alarmist.

Half of the cost should be just that. @thenewguy: it is true that everywhere is sus to violence, but now having at the most locally protested site isn't a good idea. Currently, normal people have no clue where the Fire & Police Admins work, nor do they understand what they do. They (the protesters) will think that they can control policy.

The reason I hate it at that site is basically crossroads. It is meant for something more than being a civic office park. They are starting to fill it in with a bunch of *|expletive| because they can't find outside channels. I am waiting for them to say that City Hall or another civic type to be moved, just to fill the space.

Here is the next thing. They'll build it too small. We already have the new Juvenile Center that was built too small. This city and its companies have always built too small (I have an example of a private company doing so). They also built the library too small - we shouldn't need to lease the old Shopko on 84th to store some of the books, city overflow archives, and storage. Notice the word lease = waste of money. It is a nice way of also slowing the system of retrieving city archives when someone is doing a search. To me that isn't advancement - this is just going to be more of the same for the sake of filling space.

I’m not suggesting we transform it into a fortress. However, the area is a hotspot for protests, and if these protests become large and well-organized, they could potentially cause problems for the building and its occupants. I’ll support the bond to make this building a reality because we genuinely need a new Police and Fire Headquarters, and we should significantly increase construction at Crossroads. I’ve visited the site, and I don’t believe I’ve witnessed any substantial progress beyond the construction of two elevator shafts.

I don’t think the City of Omaha and Douglas county will be moving from there current location nor do I envision the Court House being torn down and moved to 72nd street. We do need to find business’s that would like to locate in that area and might need incentivize them to make the move. The construction and management of the site has been truly appalling.

The aliens were kind enough to gift a giant remote controlled tesla coil for immediate vaporization of individuals who dont abide by the rules. Since it was aliens, theres nobody to blame. Not exactly what I said. The Police and Fire HQ needs to be resilient in all public safety and emergency situations. Protest that would be turning into a riot would be a public safety and emergency situation. Secondly I never advocated for moving the Court House or City Hall to 72nd. City hall does need a makeover though as does the Courthouse.

Oh, I wasn't making a joke about you. I was just jokingly suggesting a bizarre potential outcome. This development stinks so bad, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they went full tilt on moving all city ops to Crossroads. Why not? I wouldnt be mad about it, cuz on one hand you lose their downtown presence, on the other, brand new offices and maybe not another 15 years of the clown show that is Crossroads.

The aliens, far fetched, but the ancient alien theory suggests... something like: the aliens created us in their image and you can replace almost every "god" reference in the Bible with "aliens" and it seems to make much more sense lol. Theres a day of reckoning anywho. I dunno about yall, but I'd rather we learn to be at peace with the laws and enforcement we have, than FAFO aliens or god are real, cause if so they'd wipe us all out... It shouldn't be a worry about safety and security having the police HQ at the protest spot, but for some equally bizarre reason, we can't have nice things, so i would assume those that frequent the corner are generally salty of any sort of law and order related building. I'm almost certain they'll at least try to do something to it, lest they not realize that every worker in the building is armed ... I think it'll be fine here.

And yes, I want tactical vehicles on display, both because they're cool, and they tend to calm people down pretty quick. Nothing like saying don't even think about it.
