A roundabout instead of a five way stop?

Instead let's accept that during the 2 hours of busiest traffic in the city there will be a bit of a delay and not wastefully overbuild the road for < 10% of the day.

I agree here. Build out the transit and bike routes instead.

This makes more sense and connects with the long term goal of improving mass transit and getting out of car-oriented development. Especially on the east side of town where its more manageable.

Yes, mostly. But Omaha is slowly learning and picking up some steam towards a more sustainable model.

Its not as if the traffic there isnt a huge problem there though. You can't just pretend that if a few people start riding a bike that it'll get better. It'll only get worse if they put this development in and didn't increase capacity in any way.

Saddle Creek & Hamilton sees ~12,000 cars a day meaning that there are 11 intersections on Saddle Creek alone that see more traffic: https://publicworks.cityofomaha.org/ima ... 0_2021.pdf

Those 12,000 is for the current 5 way intersections and reason the 11 other intersections have more traffic, is Northwest Radial turns into Saddle Creek.

Thanks for that info Louie. And that is correct SOB. Saddle Creek isn't that busy North of where it cuts off from NW Radial... And the intersection that really matters here is NW Radial and Hamilton, which sees 41,000 per day. That's quite a large difference from the aforementioned Saddle Creek & Hamilton.

NW Radial & Hamilton is third among the listed intersections behind only Saddle Creek & Cuming, and Saddle Creek & Leavenworth if you account for Saddle Creek and NW Radial being the same continuous road.

Saddle Creek and Hamilton will also get simpler since it will change to a 4 way without Saddle Creek SE

That might be the easiest and cheapest solution. But I have been told multiple time that Pete Festersen doesn't like roundabouts. I was told he stopped a roundabout at the intersection of 52nd, Western Ave, and Happy Hollow blvd.

It's kind of hard to explain what I think they should do in words... I might do a quick sketch, but I essentially think they should make the transition from Hamilton to Saddle Creek like a continuous road and make the continuation of Hamilton the turn you have to make... Yeah I'll draw it here in a bit.

Yess, that is pretty much exactly what my thought was. Though in my drawing, I left 48th through, I definitely do not think it is needed. I too would prefer to disconnect 48th and do pretty much exactly what youve shown above...

Maybe also take out the QT entrance closest to NW Radial and make a turn lane so people on NW Radial can take a left to access the QT from Charles.

Its interesting when you look back at older buildings. That QT has 2 drives and 2 additional shared drives. That wouldn't happen in 2022.

It wouldn't surprise me if they have considered rebuilding that location like they did 72nd. I think nowadays with the new design standards, it would look pretty good with the building lined up next to Hamilton or NW Radial.

Oh, okay, so that is off the table. At least for a few years. But really, I think the QT is the main cause of the headache at that intersection.

For West bound it just adds to the issue that you make a left turn off Northwest Radial, go a block and hit a 5 way stop. If you could expedite traffic through that intersection, a lot of the problem would go away.

Yeah, I really think changing the intersection in the way me and Brad previously indicated would definitely help. Since Saddle Creek Rd is being deleted, why not make make the westbound progression from Hamilton to Saddle Creek Rd a continuous road, no stop signs when going westbound on Hamilton, or SE bound on Saddle Creek Rd. That would eliminate a lot of the backup. I hope they do this.

Just looked at Douglas County Assessor. Hamilton location lists owner as Russell Speeder. South Saddle Creek has no data.

Russell Speeder has painted the building and there are stakes on the South, West, and North sides of the building. My guess is they will put a driveway in there so they can have a line of cars without blocking vacuums.

Anyone know what's happening with these lots? There was talk of a city owned parking facility and new apartments in the area where they blocked off the street.

There is trash everywhere, empty buildings, some without windows or doors and no activity for years.

The lots were acquired by Harrison at Saddle Creek Inc over the years with a listed address 1410 N Saddle Creek, the same address as A-United Automatic Doors & Glass

There's been a sign for awhile that it's for sale, looks like the planned apartments and other development is not happening.

If you look closely at the for sale sign it says .6 acre lot for sale. It seems like that would only be the old mini gas station portion of the property.

I believe it is the owner of A-United that owns those lots. I went to a Saddle Creek BID meeting last year and asked about it. My understanding is that with the floodplain, they are not able to build the apartments or parking garage. I wonder why this wasn’t understood before they purchased all of the lots and redid the intersection. I don’t know what the plan is going forward.

There was supposed to be a right turn only lane on Hamilton to turn on to Radial but that was axed with the failed Wolfson lot redevelopment.

I know they were planning on relocating some pretty large sewer as part of the apartment development and in the draft Capital Improvement Program for this year it looks like they cancelled that project so I guess it all adds up.

Neighborhood might have fought back. As we all know, residents of the immediate area really dont care for these projects, and with good reason, IMO. They saw what happened with both those new apartments on 46th and dont want more of it. Some people see it as a good thing to bring in higher income people, others see it as gentrificatuon. I will not be unhappy if this and Woodsonia both fall through.
