City records show they already applied for a liquor license at 830 Harney St. I'm guessing this is to be part of the ground retail at The Brickline.

Omaha’s lineup of restaurants serving solid Southern cuisine is still fairly short. A trio comes to mind: Herbe Sainte, Mouth of the South, Acadian Grille.

Now there’s a new contender: Tupelo Honey, the first restaurant to open east of 10th street in downtown Omaha’s new Mercantile development.

After two visits, I found some dishes to like and a surprisingly good spirit-free cocktail — but the dishes I enjoyed most were not the ones I expected.

Before we get into the nitty gritty: It is pretty cool to dine on 8th and Harney Street for the first time ever as a downtown Omaha resident. Situated just east of the Old Market on newly constructed roads that were once part of the ConAgra campus, I’m guessing that the giant patio outside Tupelo Honey will be mighty popular once spring rolls around.

Per the last construction impact webinar, construction is currently slated to wrap up in this area in June 2027.

Completely anecdotal but for every time I heard someone talk about Tupelo Honey, I heard 10 people talk about their neighbors at Memoir or Ghost Donkey. I think they were just the boring storefront next to two great spots.

The way the sign reads I would think reopening next year, but...not reopening wouldn't surprise me either. I don't know what's up with Tupelo but I get the feeling they aren't well managed across the franchise. I seem to recall the Denver location being closed for a bit too.

My parents live in the building, so I went there more than I'd otherwise choose. I had really good food maybe twice, and it was pretty mediocre the rest of the time. How they managed to screw up fried chicken so badly I'll never know. I just hope they fill the space in the building quickly.

Also, when they said "streetcar construction", do they really mean building the hotel just south of there? I'd imagine it would be a lot more disruptive than the streetcar.

Looks like the Denver one is still open or open again, but they did permanently close the Franklin, TN and Chattanooga, TN locations this year.

I agree. There is no streetcar construction in front of their building and the 10th and Harney Intersection has been open all summer. Its really an easy place to get to. North on 10th, East on Harney, North on 8th, and turn left in to the parking garage. The streetcar was just an easy excuse.
