Cox and Charter Merging
It may be old news for some, but I just saw it, so I thought I'd share.
Cox, Charter communications set to merge
https://www.wowt.com/2025/05/16/cox-cha ... set-merge/
The title says merge, but the article reads more like Charter is acquiring Cox.

I actually haven't heard, but it does sound like they are going to merge and use the Cox Communications name.

Potayto/potahto, merger/acquisition. Most deals these days are a combination of cash and stock and the distinction is largely irrelevant. For Omahans, it will be interesting to see if Cox gets more or less capex to invest in fiber.

The company will be Cox, but the telco service will be branded Spectrum.skinzfan23 wrote: Tue Jul 08, 2025 4:42 pm I actually haven't heard, but it does sound like they are going to merge and use the Cox Communications name.

Re: Cox and Charter Merging
So is Charter actually "Spectrum"? Because the article and email I received regarding the acquisition (which seems to imply Spectrum is buying Cox) says Spectrum all over it.
I love how they tossed an added bonus in there saying I can get a free year of wireless on one line with them... for houses like ours that have 4 cell phones, it does little, to no good. I'm on a price-locked 3 year deal for $60/month for 1-gig. Will be interesting to see how hosed I get. Might have to finally jump ship from Cox/Spectrum/whatever it's going to be called and go elsewhere.

Re: Cox and Charter Merging
Yes, it will be Spectrum. I looked at their plans online and they look comparable to Cox, prob even a little better. And the best part, they have no data caps. It did state that you don't have to do anything and they are going to have a pricing strategy available in September, so who knows if they will stay the same.
One other big thing of note, all of their customer service is housed in the US, no more calls to foreign countries that you can't understand.
For now, its wait and see for me, but so far it sounds good.

Good! We have had some BRUTAL customer service interactions with Cox recently, some of which have needlessly taken a few hours to resolve.skinzfan23 wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2026 8:59 am One other big thing of note, all of their customer service is housed in the US, no more calls to foreign countries that you can't understand.

The people I work with in Fremont who live there and have had Spectrum don't have much good to say. Many have moved to Allo and are happy with that.
They closed ther buisness / service office in Fremont too

Re: Cox and Charter Merging
I am hoping its similar to Cox. Rarely do I ever have any issues that I need to call them for. Yes, it can be tedious when I have to call them, but usually every year I call the retention dept to get lower prices after promos expire, and they are really helpful.
I have heard so many horror stories with customer service with all the fiber companies out there. It seems to be great when working, but people in Bellevue have stated sometimes it could be days to get access restored on Fastwyre. Since I work from home a lot, that wouldn't work at all.

It just seems standard that everyone whines about their cable company. Not sure I take anything from that.nebugeater wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2026 10:15 am The people I work with in Fremont who live there and have had Spectrum don't have much good to say. Many have moved to Allo and are happy with that.

We've had Cox for years. We do the same thing with specials. Though I have found going into the store, they give them to you fast and offer really really good deals.skinzfan23 wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2026 11:20 am I am hoping its similar to Cox. I used to work in my office part time and home part time. They downsized our corporate office last year in Bellevue so I gave up my office and now work at home. I still go there occasionally but just have to work in an available cube.
We've never had an issue with Cox, and it's critical for me. I have a neighbor that years ago tried to talk me into CenturyLink, they went all in at one point including cable. It was good for a while but holy cow when something goes wrong, it's a pain in the you know what to get ahold of someone and takes days to weeks to get their service back. Now I am hearing they either left or might be leaving the business. I can't take that chance.
They installed MetroLink in our neighborhood last year. Now AT and T is putting in fiber optics. I will definitely wait a while and see how these two perform over the long haul before I would consider switching. And that will probably only be if I notice issues with Spectrum. I just can't take chances with our internet.

Re: Cox and Charter Merging
Cox has been my only major option, and they screwed me over a few years ago so I'm making due. Maybe I'll give it a go once they change over, but I won't be happy about it.
I'm so disappointed that they didn't dig in fiber while doing the streetcar work. I think if downtown residents would have been much more tolerant of the construction if they knew they could get Allo or Google Fiber at the end (I know it is available some places, but not my condo).

I get that for sure, but these examples are from people I work with, with details. I take all the |expletive| I read on Nextdoor, Facebook, and everywhere else with a large grain of salt, but these are from people I know. Granted, sample size is not large, but it is not one personGreg S wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2026 11:29 amIt just seems standard that everyone whines about their cable company. Re: Cox and Charter Merging
We've had CenturyLink for several years and they have been great outside of a few times that we needed a tech and even then, we were able to get someone fairly quickly. The other times we've had outages was primarily due to construction work and/or a car accident hitting out prime box. Centurylink turned into Quantum and now ATT owns it so it's hard to say what you're getting with fiber installed by them. We have TMobile now in the neighborhood which I can appreciate having competition. Overall, we used to be with Cox, but their yearly rate raise was annoying AF and charging for data was the nail in the coffin in our eyes.Greg S wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2026 11:41 amskinzfan23 wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2026 11:20 am I am hoping its similar to Cox. If we had better cell service in our neighborhood, I'd even consider that as an option, but we can hardly make calls on cellular from our house.

Oh year I am sure. I just know that ever since cable arrived in the 80's, no matter where you go, or what company it is, people complain about their cable company.nebugeater wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2026 12:31 pmI get that for sure, but these examples are from people I work with, with details. Best of luck with that. Teres plenty of people in the US that you cannot understand. I wouldnt be surprised if phone customer service based in the US attracts the same "talent" group.
