Time for a new thread for the next season.

I see that Trea Taylor, the QB commit for the 2027 class, is transferring to play ot Millard South to be in Nebraska for his senior High School Season. He is leaving Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois.

What I really find interesting and makes me go HMMMM is that while he is playing for Millard S in Omaha his plan is to live in Lincoln and Commute to "go to school" at Millard S. Wnat to be close to the Husker trainng facilities, be able to meet with all the rucruits that come and and says in his words it is kind of a soft redshirt year.

My question is, how can this work? It was only a few Seasons ago that Gretna had to vacate their Class A title becuase they had a player who transferred in and lived part of the time with one parent in Gretna, but it was not enough, and he was deemed not eligible to play for Gretna.

My guess is Millard Public must have a more open-enrollment policy than other districts. I live in Millard and I do know as a student you can choose from their different schools. However, I'm not privy to knowing if you can live in a different city and attend their school.

Hey, if it makes Nebraska win, then I'm for it as long as it doesn't involved anything "illegal". Assuming there was a backup already attending Millard South, I do feel al little bad for that guy... my guess is if you're bringing in someone from out of state just to play HS football, then he WILL be the starter.

The question is, are there any rules anymore? I saw a couple of weeks ago that a baskeyball player who was playing in a developmental league was going back to college, essentially starting from scratch.

Apparently high school student athletes are allowed one Option Enrollment Waiver during their time participating in the NSAA.

Won't be too long before NIL for high school kids... they'll be rollin' up in their G-wagon or Lambo to their own apartment or townhome during senior year. I'm sure it's happening in other parts of the country.

Missouri passed a state law about four years ago now that allows high school players to collect NIL.

Looks like Shawn Eichorst is about to be named the new AD at Wisconsin.

Couple of parallels with the Huskers. The obvious on is he was the AD at Nebraska and we know how that went.

Another parallel as I see it is he was at Wisconsin in the Wis Athletic department for a number of years earlier in his career. Reminds me of the great Steve Pederson experiment. Very few didn't think he was a good hire at the front end and by the time he was gone it was almost a total shift of support.

Could be fun to watch from the sideline

I really appreciated Bill Byrne when he was at Nebraska. I know others criticized him as "Dollar Bill," but thought he was a top AD. Was shocked and bummed when he left for aTm. That immediately went away when I heard Steve Pederson was coming home. Thought he was the perfect follow up. Could not have been more wrong or disappointed.....

For Eichorst, he was flat out awful and and awful fit. I don't blame him as much as I do Harvey Perlman though....

I stepped outside today and I noted the shadows are just starting to be visibly longer, so I got a twinge of football nostalgia.its coming around the bend. Just over four weeks, and itll go fast.

So, what are our expectations? Hopes, fears?

I will be honest, I'm nervous. It looks like they should start 5-0, but then the schedule catches fire.

My floor is 6-6
My ceiling is 8-4

Hate to say it but Iowa has our number so that makes me lean more toward 7-5.

Either way, this is the prove-it season, so I'm hopeful for 8-4 and could be content about that. Long as they steadily improve.

I do not fundamentally have an issue with college athletes getting paid, but this is out of control.

Still a year away from playing at the college level and no guarantees by contract of where he goes, even though all indications are it is Nebraska

Nebraska Quarterback Commit Trae Taylor Lands First-of-Its-Kind NIL Deal

On Tuesday, Pete Nakos of On3 reported that the Millard South (NE) signal-caller partnered with Derby Watch Supply, becoming the first high school athlete to do so to date. The senior has yet to take a snap for the Big Red, but he's already (arguably) becoming the face of a university he has yet to enroll at. Now, it appears he's becoming one of the most marketable as well.

The financial details of the partnership have not been released. Even so, the agreement adds another nationally recognized brand to Taylor's growing list of sponsors, which On3 currently values at an estimated $1 million.

This wasn't the 6-foot-3, 200-pound senior's first sponsorship agreement, either. To date, Taylor has partnered with Adidas, Overtime, Subway, Hershey, Gary Young Chevrolet, "and a few other small ones," he told me.

With NU being an Adidas school, an eventual partnership made sense. Taylor, however, became the first Nebraska-centric athlete to do so before arriving on campus. Other current and former Huskers who have signed NIL agreements with the sporting goods giant include Dylan Raiola, Harper Murray, and Lexi Rodriguez.

Fyi, if you'd like to see the loss at Oregon there are now two airlines offering non stops from Eppley to Eugene, American and Southwest.

I just saw this. 300-some for Southwest, almost a thousand for American. Tack on hotel, food/beer, probably a rental car, and the cost of the tickets and youre signed up for one heckuva disappointment.

On the positive side, its possible their starter gets hurt and Raiola plays, the Skers might stand a chance.

I wouldn't mind doing the Oregon trip. Lived in Eugene for work for several months years ago. Great area, beautiful. And just a short drive down for Portland. If you go from Eugene west to Florence you get to the ocean (sea lion caves are just north). Then continue north on highway 101. Absolutely gorgeous. Newport has the Oregon Coast Aquarium (they brought Keiko there back in the day), You can even go north past where you'd veer off to Portland and see Astoria (Goonies, Kindergarten Cop, plus Lewis and Clark were there).

I am so tempted. We are already set to go to the Illinois game.

I would go if I were there a couple days in advance, to do what you mentioned. There has to be a sight seeing aspect or I'd never fly that far to see an almost guaranteed loss. If the game is like the least of my reasons to go. Id probs go on Tuesday or Wednesday so theres at least Thursday and Friday to explore and get the most of the flight milage.

Not sure if his heart was in it or if he was just chasing NIL but would have made for some extra depth in the backfield

Yeah he was brought when there was uncertainty surrounding Mekhi Nelson. Once Nelson got cleared to rejoin the team I wondered what would happen with Hayes.

He has been on Big Red Wrapup for a while.

After his NFL career, he did play for the Omaha Nighthawks.

The amount of "specials" they are sending out on a daily basis, including extra student seats for Ohio, 4 packs and food vouchers for Bowling Green, and a concert after North Dakota along with reading tweets saying there are 7-10k remaining seats for all remaining games pretty much indicates the sellout streak should be allowed to end. I know the sell out streak in and of itself, is a motivational selling point for tickets, but this is unsustainable long term.

We have an absolutely terrible real world economy, people have been trained to enjoy sports on HD TV even more post Covid, costs of event attendance skyrocketing with higher concessions and ticket prices, and the team has been garbage. The generation that values live attendance is aging out of attending as well.

I'm seeing this trend all over whether it be minor league baseball with the Storm Chasers and how their attendance has cratered post Covid and is only now slowly building back up, but most everything else as well. People are rightly voting with their wallets. And, at $4 a gallon of gas and groceries through the roof, it's an increasingly tough sell to get people to drive 50-200 miles to watch a 6-6 football team flounder around the field.

I'm with you up until the very end. I think tickets cost too much, sure, but any time i go, it's a great feeling being in memorial. That being said, there's no way i could afford to be a season ticket holder with how expensive everything is, but it seems unfair to categorize them as any run of the mill 6-6 team

I see bleachers and GA seats leaving the market in general. Stadiums are built with fewer seats, meaning the price of the average ticket will go up. That means people get priced out.

For as bad as they've been, they should really be selling seats for $20 bucks no matter what game it is.
