FWIW, I did have a guy on ORBT last week get on, insist on giving me a free phone charger out of the goodness of his heart (new-in-box, I appreciated the generosity), and then get out a crack pipe.

That’s also the first time in two years I’ve seen anyone smoke crack on the bus.

Famously, public transport systems in East Asia, Europe, MENA, SEA, and Aus/NZ are terrible.

I reject completely the notion that developments like Heartwood are a step towards transit infrastructure. Further, I reject the idea that density development must precede transit when every study, every piece of research, every real life example shows us the exact opposite is true.

Build transit, damned be the NIMBYs, and tax land.

Most people don’t want to ride on a bus and have to deal with people who smell like an ashtray or body odor, mentally ill people who talk to themselves, people who listen to their music or something on their phone with the volume on high, screaming kids, crying babies, people who wet themselves, someone kicking the back of your seat, etc.

What? Which bus route? What day of the week and time did you experience this? I don't take the bus often, but rarely do I see anything like this. Maybe it's just the route I use.

I ride the bus in DC a few times a month (usually take the train) and have very rarely experienced any of that here either.

I ride city and interstate busses regularly in Mexico, and while the city busses are often crowded with a mix of school children, senior citizens, people commuting to work and tourists, other than the occasional musician who performs briefly in the aisle hoping for tips, everyone is polite and reasonably quiet. People listen to whatever music they enjoy via Bluetooth EarPods.
