That is on of the oddest looking traffic light I have ever seen, were at in the US do they have that. On the other hand it is an interesting idea to have set up at certain intersections with something like that, maybe one day we will see them here

Many states have adopted them. There are some that still haven't. Nebraska is one of them. I'm trying to recall which other ones still don't have them. I think Tennessee is another, so is Ohio. Possibly North Dakota.
I was in Washington last year (Summer 2011) and they had a flashing yellow arrow at the I-90/Canyon Road interchange in Ellensburg.

I saw a bunch of these recently, and I am trying to remember where. I think it was in KC, MO. They make much more sense than having a solid green in the turn lane, which logically should tell turning traffic that they have the right of way.mrsticka wrote:Is anybody familiar with flashing yellow arrows?
They haven't made their way into Nebraska yet, but if and when they do, this is what they'll use:
And of course, Omaha will use this:

I could see those going in at 108th and L, 72nd and Dodge, 132nd and Center and California and Regency.nativeomahan wrote:I saw a bunch of these recently, and I am trying to remember where. Who the heck doesn't know that is exactly what it is telling them? Frankly, if they cannot figure out such a basic concept, we should be more concerned with getting these mouth-breathers off the roads than changing everything to accomodate them.nativeomahan wrote:I saw a bunch of these recently, and I am trying to remember where. Well, changing an intersection into a roundabout isn't much better because most drivers don't know what the heck they're doing at them.

What if it was a 3 lane roundabout?mrsticka wrote:Well, changing an intersection into a roundabout isn't much better because most drivers don't know what the heck they're doing at them.
There is a learning curve on a lot of things. Should Al Gore have not invented the interwebs because people didnt know how to use it?

1. Al Gore did not invent the internet. We do not have him to thank for it.
2. Lincoln now has a 3 lane roundabout at 14th and Superior and most drivers there tend to get very confused. They don't know what lane to be in and may end up cutting off other drivers. Sometimes, they just sit there and not have a clue what to do. And it has NOT reduced accidents.

Re: Traffic Lights
I've had it with the way they configure the intersections now. I *get* the idea behind having one turn lane go at the beginning and the other at the end of the cycle. But that's assuming theres adequate traffic to justify it. It was 8pm last night, so on a friggin Sunday at 8pm, the lights were configured as if it was a weekday at 5pm. We had to sit and watch the oncoming handful of cars go north on 120th, while the opposing 3 turning cars turned west onto Dodge. So here's me at the light in the turning lane to go east on Dodge, and one other person waiting to go straight. We wait for the whole northbound cycle until he got his straight green. One person. And I had to wait for the whole southbound cycle before I got a very brief green left turn arrow.
Went straight east until 90th, where I typically decide whether to turn left at 90th, or continue to Cass or 72nd. Came up to 90th as it turned red, so was there for the 90th traffic. This time I applied what happened at 120th, and said Ill go straight this time. And what happens? Both the turn lanes go first!
They made all the lights unreadable cause you don't know every intersection's character any given time on any given day. Put me in the boat of people wishing they'd go back to both turn lanes first at all intersections.
This reminded me when I saw someone |expletive| at a green turn arrow and not go. It just occurred to me maybe they weren't expecting it, and thus weren't looking for it to turn green. Missed the light in whole.

Re: Traffic Lights
They do the turn lanes last because most of the turning traffic shows up towards the end of the cycle. It’s a more efficient use of the cycle.Busguy2010 wrote: Mon Oct 12, 2026 7:28 pm I've had it with the way they configure the intersections now. Like I said, I get it. It makes enough sense when the traffic is there.GenX wrote: Mon Oct 12, 2026 9:20 pm They do the turn lanes last because most of the turning traffic shows up towards the end of the cycle. It’s a more efficient use of the cycle.
They don't both go first in the situation at 120th. They did at 90th. Thats the point of my rant is they're inconsistent. Some of them coordinate like how I mentioned at 120th and some of them sometimes do and sometimes dont. All the intersections used to be turn lanes first and that's what it was.
If the darned smart lights know when to behave a certain way at different times of day, and thats supposedly whats good for us, youd think there would be some improvement of traffic flow. If anything, I'd say it's been worse since they made that switch. Which was when? I seem to remember its been since Ewing became Mayor. Whatever it is, I know for dam certain im not the only person with complaints about it.

Re: Traffic Lights
Because someone wanted to talk/vent about traffic lights.
We mods actually prefer that an existing thread (more accurately called a topic) be used so there's not duplicate disjoined discussions.
The question that should really be asked is where's Tuna?
