I'm honestly surprised the one on 108th and Maple lasted as long as it did. No matter the day of the week or time of day, the lot always only has a few cars in it.

Mom mom shops there sometimes because it's close, but she doesn't like it. Unfortunately, when all of these close, they typically don't turn into another viable grocer. Back in the day, one could close (ie, Albertson's, Baker's, etc) it would turn into another chain.

I feel all Family Fares will eventually close up. Also, any idea if anything will ever take over the Fresh Thyme location off of 175th & Center? Terrible location and access... tucked back behind the Runza and others. Not that I'm a developer genius, but sometimes I wonder who signed the papers to open some of these places.

I wasnt THAT sad about them closing all these locations, because I know theres still at least 6 locations left when you count supermercado's. But yes, sad that theyre seemingly closing every store thats accessible to anyone who used to live around one. I saw the Grow Omaha post on Facebook, and I confirmed two things : that the consensus truly is Family Fare isnt just some of the best fried chicken in town, it IS the best fried chicken in town. 2) most people dont know where the other locations are.

I suggest everyone to make a side trip and visit the ones on 50th & Grover and 50th & Harrison. Both very well managed, and they are the outliers. If you're somebody who's avoided Family Fare due to the ghetto-ness, outdated finishes and rude service, these two will change your mind.

But yeah... A little sad. As a kid, I used to live a 5 minute walk from one. And I'll always have fond memories of shopping with my Dad. Mostly cause thats where we got our Christmas trees, Thanksgiving Turkeys, Summer time grilling meats, etc. Not but a football throw away. Also, of course, memories of my dad bringing home No-Frills fried Chicken and beans. The convenience! (ps. Forgot this location is now a spirit halloween, so i will go there just to be in the building again. Its been 12 years!)

The ONE left that I have any childhood/college days memories of is Saddke Creek. And I went there a week or a little more ago, and it was still open. In fact, since it was said theyre closing, this one held on the longest. Its been probably over a year an not a whiff of indication they plan to close. I almost asked a worker, but cautiously didnt, in case they hadnt heard. You'd never know by the look of it... I'm loving it though. Ive continued to go there and eventually forgot "they were closing"

108th was my last closest option after they closed 90th & Maple. After they all go, the closest one will be 50th & Grover. And well, for the most part, I probably wont venture that far with regularity. They'll all be in the southeast corner of town.

that sucks, they have amazing chicken. Unfortunately, it's not in a great spot and you have to drive past hy-vee or super-saver to get to it and a lot of people just don't do it. And the people that live in the area would rather drive past *it* to get to hy-vee, which is (admittedly) a much nicer store
Supermercado has the same chicken, even a spicy version.

oh buddy, i forgot about that. I've had the spicy version and it's great. Not even that spicy, just really good flavor. And not that far away, either.

"Food desert" incoming!

I say that, because after they open up the Hyvee on 156th & Ida, you betcha 108th & Fort will take a beating.

Interesting. I live out here and first thing I thought of was that the Hy Vee at 156th and Maple takes the big hit.

That "big hit" might speed up development of the potential location farther west along Maple.

Is the rumor that 108th will be closing still on?

There was a rumor out from somebody here a number of years ago that it was to close. For how long they've sat on 204th & Maple, it wouldnt surprise me if its taking this long to come to fruition. The rumor was that when they find land further North and West of 108th, that they'd close that location, but I figured this would mean a store more around Blair High & State. Leading me to believe this one at 156th & Ida is not part of that rumor. Theyre not in the same location, and 108th, and 156th and Ida is almost twice as far away from 108th & Fort, than it is 156th & Ida. Likewise for their 180th & Pacific and 180th & Q, are only 3 miles apart, and they apparently dont feed off each other.

I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s been pretty lightly trafficked for as long as I can remember.

I’ve never had the chicken. I suppose I should probably go try some before too long.

The store between Maple and Blondo on 108th?

No, somehow the topic turned to if the 108th Family Fare closes, and the new Hyvee at 156th and Ida would leech off the 108th Hyvee, there eventually would be no groceries on 108th.

However, I think Family Fare closing will send most of the stragglers to that 108th Hyvee and boost the likelihood that Hyvee sticks around. There was a rumor years ago that the Hyvee at 108th and Fort would be quietly packing their bags by 2028 or something like that.

I don't think the 156th and Ida store will kill the 108th and Fort Hyvee store.

108th just added an extension on the east side for drive up. No more mobile container.

Outside of AD specials and pharmacy, I do not do regular shopping there.

I saw a Facebook post from 4 days ago saying the Family Fare on Saddle Creek has a closing date in mind, some time im November. Would assume its posted throughout the store. Wouldn't surprise me even though I went there about a week ago.

I was just there on Friday, they had signs on the door that they were closing but no date. A lot of stuff on sale and a lot of shelves already empty so it will probably be pretty quick.

I would guess so too. I will be surprised if anything will be left by November.

I went there myself today. Theyre still working on the 3 westernmost aisles, which I assume will be within the next 3 days, then most everything for sale will be up front only.

My first thought: "Now people shop at Family Fare!", "Who are all these people?". I'm an OG, shopped there about every two weeks since I was a kid basically. And now they co.e out of the woodwork. Makes me wonder if they just lowered the price of everything by 8% or so, if just that would have kept them open?

The one at 204th and Pacific seems to have decent business whenever I am in the store. It is probably the newest store and must cleaner and wider aisles compared to any of the others I have been in. But man, I have never tried the chicken. Will have to fix that soon from the comments on here. What I have tried is the Hudsonville brand ice cream. It's the bomb at our house.
My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.

I was in the 108th & Maple this morning. Looks like a lot of the inventorty is getting boxed up and transferred to other stores. All the cold areas were tarped off. Deli and bakery closed. Wine is 50% off for anyone interested.

I'm not sure how people can shop in the old stores - every time my mom would go into 108th between Maple and Blondo she would tell me how depressing it is... and this goes back years. It's like a Hinky Dinky from 1980 that never remodeled.

I suspect this location will take a major hit when Bakers opens and when the Fairway gets built along 370 that signs are up for.

I've never been to the one on 204th. I never think about it, cause from where Im at, its just as fast to go to the one in Blair, and will less traffic. Not that Ive been pressed by that issue, given theres still the one on Grover. But its just unfathomable that so many of them north of Dodge are closing. I think all of them. There won't be one north of Dodge. Since I have to drive by Walmart, Bakers, and Hyvee to get to Grover, Ill probably have to be craving the chicken to shop at a Family Fare again. Theyre not "in my neighborhood" anymore , contrary to the slogan.

I'll take a stab at it with my own observations. I used to stop at the one on 144th Center, but its not on my path anymore. The 204th location never seems busy any time Im there.

1. Produce quality is lacking. Really lacking.
2. Hot deli, some bakery, good.
3. Prices are generally high on everything else. Just normal things I buy, they are considerable higher than other stores.
4. It's another rewards system you have to manage. They should probably get into the fuel biz.
5. The stores aren't in the best retail areas. You would think 144th Center, 108th Q, 108th Maple are, but they are not. Kinda matured areas of town where big grocery stores are probably not required as much.
6. There isn't enough "draw" to go to their stores. For example, Bakers always has $2 milk and Hyvee always has a good booze shop, deli and produce.

If I want meat, I go to Fareway, Ricks, Stoysich or Costco. Produce Aldi or Hyvee. Milk and deals, Bakers. If I choose one store because they will likely have it, Hyvee.
