So I saw on the twitter yesterday that Crieghton's famously popular dollar beer nights are doubling in price to $2. It has not gone over well to say the least. A lot of ire was directed at AD Marcus Blossom. Some were saying this is the last straw. Is he unpopular, or on the hot seat? I know there's been a lot of turnover at the big jobs in the athletic department but hadn't heard that fans were unhappy with him specifically lately.

Yeah that would be interesting. I see they've already reversed course on their dollar beers. I think they completely miscalculated on how much cheap beer and its tradition means to their fan base.

They were already riled up about the NIL surcharge, the beer thing seemed to put them over the edge. Seems like their season ticket sales are off this year. I don't remember them offer mini packages of tickets before, but maybe it's just being advertised more this time?

Eh, the $1 beer outrage came from the "burnerverse" on Twitter/X, who are predominantly recent grads or current students. That demo really loves their dollar beers, lol. One of the most vocal of those accounts bragged about how they managed to get 12 dollar beers in 90 minutes last year, if that tells you anything. Granted I'm a long way removed from that demo, but it was a non-story among any Jays fans I know.

(That said, it's such a silly thing to shoot yourself in the foot over. It only lasts 90 minutes and they're 12 ounce cups of domestic light beer from a keg. Most people only get through the line once. And it's probably only 1/3 of the crowd buying any at all. Even though MECA is the one that increased the price, what are we talking here, $10,000? Just pay it and avoid the negative publicity.)

Marcus gets his share of criticism, and some of it is warranted, but athletic directors everywhere are in a tough spot. If you try to maximize revenue through surcharges and price increases, reseating plans, etc, some people get mad about being nickel-and-dimed. If you don't, other people get mad about not having enough revenue to compete. I don't envy them right now.
