Texas License Plates

Post by mrsticka »

What if Texas used some kind of jurisdiction coding on their license plates? I mean, since the 1920's? I don't mean using county numbers. They have over 200 counties. Here's what I mean:

DFW–Dallas/Fort Worth
HOU–Houston
AUS–Austin
SNT–San Antonio
WAC–Waco
KLT–Killeen/Temple
WCF–Wichita Falls
TYL–Tyler
LNG–Longview
CSB–College Station/Bryan
SNG–San Angelo
MOD–Midland/Odessa
AMR–Amarillo
ABL–Abilene
LUB–Lubbock
ELP–El Paso
LAR–Laredo
FTS–Fort Stockton
DLR–Del Rio
BRW-Brownsville
CPC–Corpus Christi
GAL–Galveston
BPA–Beaumont/Port Arthur

And other smaller cities or towns use those codes as well. It depends on which larger metro they're closer to. After the codes are 4 or 5 digits of serial. Like this for example: DFW–12345, DFW-A12345, DFW–AB1234

So what if Texas used that kind of coding on their license plates?

I don't know. I guess other states use some sort of coding on their plates like county. So I wondered what if Texas did that? But since they have over 200 counties, I don't think simply using numbers would cut it. So I decided to come up those codes for the larger metros in the state. Depending where you live, your plate would have one of those codes.
