I will never understand how these parking lots get approved without a few trees and plants dividing them up. Not only does it look nicer but helps with safety and keeps the takeover kids away.
Mixed use plans require a landscape plan to be submitted with them. They must use city approved trees.
On page 9 of the Kensington Park Mixed use, plan (Link Below) you will see the landscape plan. On the Baker's lot, they show and island every 10 parking stalls and every island has a tree in it. All the streets are also lined with trees. Trees are usually planted after construction is complete so they are not damaged during construction.

Looks like Baker's had a big line waiting to get in this morning.
Unless they're giving out free Thanksgiving meals to make for a family, I can't see standing in line to checkout a grocery store... no matter how many different types of ramen and bread they sell.
From what I saw on KETV's news coverage, it looked lackluster given the size and fireworks. Even the giant HyVee I think could have been more appealing, but it's groceries, so I guess I shouldn't expect anything spectacular.
IMO, the clothing will go in less than 2 years... HyVee's tried that before and it tanked. I'm surprised the giant HyVee still has the sports "store" within their store. I never see anyone browsing, let alone picking something up to buy. The one attraction I feel the HyVee location might have going for it is it's somewhat on the way to Lincoln for Husker games, so if people forget a shirt, poncho, etc they could grab one from there.
I went yesterday as I was right there. It was the nicest Bakers I've ever been in, but ultimately a grocery store. They were giving away alot of free stuff so kids basically has their lunch there.
It seemed more like a Hyvee more then anything. It had a few extra aisles of clothing and other things, but seemed like it was more for convenience then anything. Very nice grocery store option if it was my local option. Good to get a grocery store out west.
I can see the reason for the allure, especially given that it is early November and there isn’t exactly great weather for being outside in nature. So why not check out the giant new grocery store! I’m old enough to remember the huge crowds that flocked to the Albertson’s grocery stores when they first hit the Omaha market. Besides, people make more trips per year to grocery stores than probably any other type of retail business, so they are in the habit of grocery shopping, I’m sure I will head on out that way at some point, though it is 12 miles from my home.
