You did relate cost to design. My point is simply that these are expensive enough that they could have done a lot of other things, had they wanted to(without regard to whether the should have).

It looks great in those renderings. It'll definantly be a draw for families who don't/can't cram kids into a condo.

For some reason I have been thinking this whole time that this was by Cascio's on 10th St. Oops. I finally drove by it last week. I think it will be great for that area.

Today I had to make a trek to the Main P.O. and took the scenic 10th Street Bridge route. Of course, hoping to spot a few trains made it all the more the best route to take, but...I couldn't help but notice site work already begun on this project. I saw they had the groundbreaking last week, and sure enough, they are working on the project already. Too bad Bluestone isn't as fired up for their condo project proposed as part of Slowdown. Can't help but wonder if that was just window dressing to get the project passed through city council. But if Bluestone isn't all that committed to a North Downtown project, at least it's good to see that this Little Italy project is already in progress. Imagine if 1-2 projects in this area were announced and executed for the next 10 years. What a difference that would make for this part of near downtown.
Always a business-oriented city hungry for growth and focused on development with laser intensity, Omaha aimed high, reached for momentum and found critical mass.

Thanks for the pics.

These houses look COMPLETELY boring, but it's a great development, nonetheless.

Jim Esch (democratic candidate for house of representatives) bought one of these houses. Yet another reason to vote for him, he supports dense urban development!

I toured one of the models today, a 3 bedroom unit with a nice front room with fireplace, basement with utility room and another room large enough to be a family room or additional bedroom. Three bedrooms and 2 baths upstairs. I am not a huge fan of the exteriors, but they are selling well (9 pre-sold) and the 3 model units will be finished by mid or late winter, weather depending. More framing of additional units is planned for late December, again weather permitting.

In defense of the exteriors, look around the neighborhood and you will note that these designs match the neighborhood quite well. Most neighborhood homes are smaller -- some much smaller. This is not Regency or Fairacres, folks.

The Orsi bakery across the street to the east plans to expand and open a deli/coffee house next year, I was told.

They don't look nearly as 'plastic' as I thought they would (I was afraid they were going to use vinyl siding). They really DO fit in well with the neighborhood... I think they look great!

I've said this before, but contextual design is only a good thing if the design context you are matching consists of quality designs.... This one does not.

That's cool about Orsi's!!!

I said that it WOULD look good if it were cleaned up, and I didn't want it to be torn down as long as there are empty parking lots downtown.

How are you enjoying my back? You can rest on there as long as you want. :;):

Not sure what that means when you might be the only one that thought it was worth saving (not even Big E could warrant that).

The original part is worth saving. All the additions could go as far as I am concerned/
