Over 160 cameras have been handed out to young people across Omaha. Their assignment? To snap pictures of the people and places of what define Omaha to them. To capture the essence of what makes Omaha “home.” On Friday, January 26, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., the public is invited to the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts to see a sampling of what they have captured on film. This special photo viewing serves as a sneak peak of what visitors can expect to see when “Discover Omaha: Mapping Our Cultural Landscape” Art 4 Omaha Project 5 is unveiled later this spring. Discover Omaha is creating a kaleidoscope of creative images that celebrate Omaha and its diverse communities. Sixteen local community groups are photographing the people and places throughout the city that make Omaha a wonderful and dynamic place to live, work and play. Participants are focusing on capturing a wide-range of community images including Omaha’s geography, culture and architecture. Through taking photographs of ordinary days as well as special events, gatherings and celebrations, these young people are sharing their individual perspectives on how they see and experience Omaha.
