The question might be, in what ways will UNO make season ticket purchases more compelling over purchasing on a game-by-game basis. You may find that individual game tickets may go up, or they may try to find other ways to "add value" to buying tickets in bulk.

Keep in mind that UNO season tickets are discounted over the single-game price... just not as much as other teams do, and not as much as the "2-for-1" deals that appear occasionally as well.

I hope they do something. I think raising individual prices would be insane in the current market place. For me it will come down to dollars and cents. I do have the sentimental attachment to having had season tickets since day one, but it is getting really hard to justify. One of my friends just kept bragging in our locker room at games that he had not paid to go to hardly any UNO games this year and when he did it was for half price (even the Michigan series).

Last year, "premier" games such as the Stampede, Notre Dame, Michigan St., and Michigoon were priced higher than the other games.

However, last year was kind of a "perfect storm" in scheduling. I don't think we'll see nearly as many marquee games next season.

Yeah it was a great home schedule. I'm hoping we eventually get to play North Dakota and Colorado College. The premier pricing seems here to stay. If I was UNO I would watch how much I charge for the Stampede, I realize it's two games but unless there's a name team in it, it might be a little pricey for the casual fan. They could almost charge less for Fall games (when hockey collides with football, then a little more in January).

All-American Scott Parse returning to Omaha

Post by HskrFanMike »

Big news for Omaha hockey fans!

Scott Parse, a finalist for last year's Hobey Baker award is planning to return to Omaha for his senior season.

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=38&u_sid=2222037
"I like to know what I'm doing, so I'm going to come back and play for UNO," said Parse, who was golfing in Omaha on Wednesday. "I'm pretty much set on that now, and that's good to know."

Parse, who will be a captain with the Mavs this season, was a sixth-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2004 NHL draft. Parse did not participate at L.A.'s prospects camp this summer, and he said his negotiations with the team during the off-season never got far.

"They don't want me," he said.

But UNO coach Mike Kemp and the Mavs definitely do.

The 6-foot wing from Portage, Mich., helped UNO make its first trip to the NCAA hockey tournament in 2005-06.

During his junior season, Parse was named the CCHA player of the year, a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award and a first-team All-American - all firsts for a Mavs hockey player. He led the NCAA in scoring most of last season, and despite playing through a shoulder injury late in the year, he finished third in the country with a school-record 61 points.

I think Parse may be the best returning player in college hockey this year. Huge for the Mavs, and a loss for the Kings.

Parse, Others Sign With Griffins
Detroit Free Press wrote:The Grand Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings' American Hockey League affiliate, signed three players to amateur tryouts, including Nebraska-Omaha forward and Portage native Scott Parse. Parse, 22, is a Hobey Baker Award finalist, for for the second straight year and was named to the CCHA's All-Conference team each of the last three years. He scored a career-high 24 goals this season in 28 games.

It's just a tryout with the Detroit AHL affiliate, so you only have to hate him for the next 3 weeks or so.

Good to see that he might actually be playing for a decent team for a change, after having played for a mediocre Mav squad.

My hometown team is the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who just lost an overtime thriller last weekend to North Dakota with a Frozen Four berth on the line. Blake Wheeler of their current squad (picked with the #5 pick as a 17 year old by Phoenix) would roll over Scott Parse on the ice, as would Neal Broten, Craig Johnson, Brian Bonin, Grant Potulny, Jordan Leopold, Phil Kessel, Ryan Potulny, and many others before him.

That's all fine root for whoever you want, but you are on a forum with "OMAHA" in the title, and bashing on a team with "OMAHA" in the title.

Sorry dude, I just don't have any allegiances to any sports teams here in town. Just because I live in Omaha has no bearing on who I root for on the athletic fields.

That's cool, I took offense to "Good to see that he might actually be playing for a decent team for a change" The Mav's are decent, mediocre is OK since they are usually in the middle of the pack for the CCHA, but that doesn't mean they are not a good team.

umm, playing for a good team? Have you taken a look at the AHL standings? Grand Rapids is fighting for a playoff spot... Its hard to compare college and pro, especially as a crappy pro team could probably kick even the best college team's butt. When you look at pro vs pro, though, the Knights are significantly better (#2 in the conference) than Grand Rapids.

Wouldn't that be a great playoff matchup? Grand Rapids vs Omaha in the AHL playoffs? Its actually a possibility, depending on how the next couple of weeks shake out in the AHL. You want to bet the games here in Omaha would draw a couple more folks than the usual 2500. All just to see Parse in a pro uniform.

I don't know if Parse's contract allows him to play in the playoffs as it's a tryout contract. Plus, don't AHL teams have to set their playoff rosters in advance?

UNO Hockey

Post by Bluejay_Nation »

UNO Hockey belongs in the Civic. They would save a heck of a lot of money by making the move back to their old home. I don't understand why the need to waste money at the Qwest Center when they could save some of it by playing at the Civic. Nor do I understand why they want to build an arena on campus!

The point is, UNO probably can't afford to build an arena. They have too many other financial issues around its athletic department. The best move right now, in my opinion, is back to the Civic. The biggest mistake they ever made was leaving. They just can't draw enough to play at the Qwest and they lose money off of it. Another arena would be bad for Omaha. Since, it would be in control of UNO, which means less public events would be held there.

I am sorry, but I have to disagree about the push to move back to the Civic. If they want to build their own arena fine (although I highly doubt they can come up with the cash). One of the big draws - both recruiting and for non-conference scheduling is that the Mavs play in an NHL quality arena. Sure, it could be louder and more crowded (not necessarily # of people, just % full) if they moved back to the Civic, but the quality of the fan experience is hands down won by the Qwest. To get the Civic even close to the level that Qwest is at, it would cost a fortune in remodeling - I'm not talking about just a new scoreboard, they'd need to redo everything from concessions to the restrooms - possibly even the seats. By that point, it probably makes sense to tear down the Civic and build UNO an arena.

You've got to be a "hockey nut" to love the Civic, and be coming for the hockey. At the Qwest, its more about the "entertainment experience", and this is more likely to draw the causal fan. Everyone associated the drop in attendance with the move, but how can you be sure that's the cause? Couldn't it just be that the novelty of having a college hockey program has worn off, and that they've got to do a better job attracting/retaining fan base?

The Mavericks support will bounce back once the Knights are gone (would help if the Lancers would die too).

Of course I'd rather the Mavericks program ended... and the Knights remained at the Civic... but that's never going to happen.

I don't understand why the Knights are happy with the Civic when UNO is in love with the Qwest. Why is UNO willing to build an arena they can't afford? This arena wouldn't even be able to compare to the Qwest Center. I have doubts whether it would be the size of the Mid America Center. You have to remember that this arena would be on campus and do they have to room. For parking, roads, and the arena itself. I don't know. I still think that they should move back to the Civic. Hockey is different than basketball!

The problem isn't the Qwest Center... Its the F_uped management at UNO, that is all gone now. I think the new management should get AT LEAST 2 or 3 years to see what they can do.

Although there has been a change over at UNO in the upper areas, they aren't the ones putting the team on the ice. I don't know much about the student/athletes that UNO is getting but if they are losing better players to other schools like Twiztid1 said then the problem is the coaching/recruiting staff and how they are selling their program.

Well, this year UNO is getting the top scorer from the USHL, as well as the top scorer, the captain, and an all-star defenseman from the team that just won the Canadian national championship. It's not a bad recruiting class by any stretch.
