From a good source in the restaurant biz: A restaurant called "Aunt Emma's" (described as "delicious home cookin'") will open in the former Cheeburger Cheeburger store at Tivoli on West Center Road. I don't know if it's a national chain or a local start-up. This surprises me - I don't understand how it will make it there with so much restaurant competition.

It doesn't look to be a national chain..Perhaps regional or local..I can't seem to find a website for them..

Probably not a rumor - in the classifieds jobs section of the paper yesterday, there's a listing for hiring for Aunt Emma's. So, unless the location isn't right, they must be opening a restaurant. And, BTW, they call it "Aunt Emma's Home Cookin'"!

There has been a lot of construction work going on in there the last week or more. The old CB CB stuff has been gutted and they are starting on a new interior.

There were people eating in Aunt Emma's today at noon. It looked to me like it my be a training exercise with invited guests only. The two groups I saw walk in were holing a paper like and invite when they went in.. There was also no NOW OPEN type sign out front. With this in mind I would expect them to be open to the public soon if they aren't already and my observations are wrong.

i went in and ate there tonight it was actually very good... i got the chicken and mashed potatoes and it is ALL YOU CAN EAT which is very nice for me but overall it was excellent.... good food good service

.................Unlike the former Buca di Beppo near Oak View Mall, family style here feels very affordable, regardless of the size of your family. The price is about $10 per meat dish you order at dinner, and every table gets enough bottomless side dishes to serve whoever's bellied up.

Same goes for lunch, at $6 per meat with a smaller array of bottomless sides. Breakfast, to be added soon on Fridays through Sundays, will be about $5 per order. Drinks and desserts are extra.............................

...........The highlight was the green tomato relish - so fresh and sweet and tart, with pickling spices that gave it an almost watermelon-rind pickle taste.

"They should sell this by the jar," I thought as I put a healthy dollop in my to-go box.

But then again, maybe that would be a too-big-for-her-britches move.

What's ultimately so likable about Aunt Emma's is the lack of pretense: Aunt Emma doesn't boast, but she could. ......................

Save room for a "hunk of pie." Six to 10 flavors are offered daily, including pecan, peach, apple and coconut cream.

I went to their web site and saw the Image of Aunt Emma. Not exactly Aunt Jemima. She could have worked as a stripper at one of those bars in CB from the looks of her image. LOL

West Omaha loses 3 eateries

Three west Omaha restaurants have closed in the last two weeks, raising questions about restaurant sustainability in the city, or at least in one part of it.

The biggest of the bunch was the Scarlet and Cream Letter Club, a free-standing Husker sports-themed restaurant started by local businessmen and former Huskers in 2006. It closed Tuesday, according to one of its managers and a spokeswoman for the Village Pointe shopping center near 168th Street and West Dodge Road, where it was situated.

Aunt Emma's, a small, family-style restaurant near 178th Street and West Center Road, closed for good Sunday, according to a man who answered the phone there Wednesday morning. Owner Jerry Slusky did not return phone calls Wednesday.

And Tin Star, a small, quick-casual Southwestern eatery at Village Pointe, closed Sept. 30, owner Greg Cutchall said.

Cutchall said the Texas-based restaurant concept wasn't performing as well in Omaha as in the southwestern part of the country. He said that's why he closed the Omaha location and is opening one in Dallas

Well it looks like someone else is going to give the former Cheeburger Cheeburger, former Aunt Emma's location at Tivoli on W Center Rd a shot. There was a banner sign hanging over the location that I saw for the first time last night announcing the COMING SOON of a Vietnamese restaurant that I do not remember the exact name of. Hope it works but they still have the access issues that I think this strip has. The former Mo's is still sitting with a for lease sign on the windows.

I hope it pans out. I love Vietnamese cooking, and there are only about 2 Vietnamese restaurants in town that I know of. Kind of a tough neighborhood for a "Mom and Pop" restaurant to be in. I hope the owners have deep pockets.

I love Viet food but I'm never out there. C'est la vie. There was a pretty good Viet place in that ugly strip mall on 48th and Dodge, but they closed a while back. Too bad. I used to eat there almost once a week.

The only Vietnamese restaurant I can think of is right off 72nd street just north of NFM, never been there but it looks pretty run of the mill

FYI-It's also consistently rated as one of the worst places in the city by the health dept.

I had forgotten that Kim Son Seafood restaurant, on 78th St. near World Market, is also Vietnamese.
