I don't know if it was there when you took the picture, but there is now a sign up with a rendering of the shopping center facing "L" street.

That was the worst most decrepit car wash in town. The mechanics and I used to joke about it when I was there. I never saw anyone use it. But still - as you say - for this? Where was Omaha by Design on this?

OBD was nowhere because the ground was zoned and platted and needed no approval aside from a building permit. Once the code is actually final and adopted this might have looked slightly different if its in an overlay area.

There's a Target logo on a construction trailer there now. Also, the plat plans came in for approval this week at the planning department. It looks like the FBI building is still a go on the far east side of the development should it be approved.

Okay, it was safe to assume that Target up on West Center would be closing... I assume this means Sports Authority is moving as well. Just when I thought 132nd and West Center was seeing a resurgence... now it looks like it could be in trouble again.

Anyone remember Service Merchandise?

I always thought it was kind of fun waiting for my item to come rolling out on the conveyor belt.

Target might not be closing, here is a post from another thread:

Ok... I'm not sure if anyone has posted this or not... but one of the stores going in will be Best Buy. My friend works there and the store director told him that.

On another note... (and I hope we don't have any city planning people here), but are our city planners like brain dead??? Enough with the strip malls... include SOME sort of architectural rules that companies have to follow... if your gonna make strip malls... make them look different!

Anyways, best buy is going in... Super Target??? really? So we'll have a Super Target on 180th and W. Center, then we have a Target on 132nd and W. Center. Do we really need one on 120th and L streets? Why do we need every major chain on every single major corner... Soon it will be like Walgreens!

Maybe they should put a GameStop, Chipotle, 2 Starbucks (one isn't enough)..... and I'm sure I can come up w/ some others.

Speaking of Best Buy, is this store going to be one of their new concept stores that does away w/ most of their CD dept? I read online they plan on opening a |expletive|-load of stores this year, and a lot of them are going to be smaller versions - since products are getting smaller, and ppl are buying music online more and more, etc. Kind of funny they closed down OakView to put one less than 2 mi. away from that area now.

I wish we had that problem, you know, having too much cash that I close down and open up new stores left & right.

I believe that is what Omaha By Design's purpose is...

I'm pretty sure the one on 132nd and Center will be moving to this location to compete better with Wal-Mart. Besides, Targets don't build that close to one another, that's suicide.

I still find it hard to believe they will keep two stores within a mile of each other. While on the topic of 132nd and Center, the US Bank at the Bakers just completed a move to the 120th and Center location. I wonder if that store is in jeopardy as well now.

I talked to a target worker yesterday, she said that she thinks its closing. She said they had another remodel set for next year but they did cancel it.

So may be it is going away.

I know that this sounds harsh, but in its heyday, the plant employed over 8,000 people, and now it doesn't employ 1% as many. Those were good jobs that are gone. The property needs a comeback. This is it. It was never designed to be a park.

The thing is, the original land was void of trees. Just like Dundee when it was laid out, there were no indigenous trees. This is the prairie, folks, and the bottom line is that what is happening is that there will be a huge addition to the property tax rolls when this is all done.

Is Logan's Roadhouse a sure thing? Where have you see this confirmed? I have been to a few of them and always liked the food and experience. Been there in N.C. , FL, and Baton Rouge LA. Very good bread with a quality meal and fun atmosphere. Probably the closest thing currently in Omaha is Texas Roadhouse, imagine that!

Per their we site they have 4 locations in Missouri, one in Kansas, along with Mich, Ohio, Indiana, and Ill. so i guess why not Omaha. Would love to see them here.

Lonnie - I would also guess that B-A-M- would be Books-A-Million. Their first in Nebraska I believe.

It appears Books-A-Million are in the east part of the country... moving west. The closest current stores are:
Kansas City, KS
Joplin, MO
Oklahoma City, OK
St. Louis (Hazelwood) MO

Anyone been to one? They are the third largest bookstore, behind Barnes & Noble and Borders.

We had Books-A-Million in Louisiana when I lived there. I think I still have my discount card somewhere. It was the best place to go dumpster diving - and by that I mean they had a ton of good discounted books that were no longer top sellers. If you didn't mind going through rows of hard backs you could always find a keeper. They also had a good assortment of items other than books - a good card and gifts section. I would visit it often but we didn't have a Borders or B&N in town. Shreveport had the closest B&N.

Does anyone know when the projected opening of the center is? Isn't there a Petsmart at Oakview? I wonder if that location will be closing? This will be a major blow to the center st. corridor, pulling Michaels, Sports Authority, Office Max, Target and Petsmart off of Center![/b]

Kind of ironic, too, considering all of the remodeling just done at the Center St. locations, aside from Target. But even their store doesn't look "old" to me.

We had one in Macon, GA when I lived there some 12 years ago. My friend used to work there and I was there quite often. They always had good prices on books that I wanted to buy.

Some more news - Nebraska will be getting its first Good Times Burgers and Frozen Custard . Also B-A-M is Books-a-Million.
