Hayrack rides?

A group of friends and myself were looking to do a hayrack ride (with just us). Does anyone know of any places to go for this?

Shady lane. Its between Council bluffs and Crescent. You get a 30 to 40 min ride through the hills, then they drop you off at your personal campfire. There is everything from church groups, to family parties, to college parties, to Drunken bar groups. Great Time. You bring any food/beverages (including alcohol) and they provide the ride and fire.

Be careful. Much more of this and they will require seat belts on the hay rack. Of coarse you may be able to get by with baleing twine.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- A woman fell from a hayrack ride and was run over in Council Bluffs on Saturday.

It happened at the Shady Lane Ranch.

Authorities said the woman was taken to a hospital with critical injuries

I would second the recommendation of Shady Lane.

You DO have to be careful. You could very easily fall off the wagon, double-meaning intended.

I have been to Shady Lanes and that is the kind of thing I am looking for. I was just curious if there were any places similar to this (i.e. Vala's while a hayrack ride, is not something I would want 20 friends to get together for).

I hear Shady Lane Ranch in Council Bluffs has closed. Can anyone confirm?

Also, where (not Vala's or Bellevue Berry Farm) does everyone go for a simple hayrack ride and campfire?

They closed a couple of years back... we used to go there each year for our family ride. I thought the family that lived on the property sold it off and it was going to reopen, but I've not heard anything in over a year.

I can't see it taking much effort to try and get it up and running again... it was a farm with a bunch of port-a-potties and fire pits. They definitely needed to put some TLC into the trailers, though. We were on a ride once when a wheel fell off... I was surprised none of them ever went over a ledge or cliff, TBH. The labor out there was far from "highly-skilled"

They were in business for awhile. I seem to remember going there for a hayrack ride like 35 years ago.

I did some googling and saw where the farm/ranch equipment, tack, and horses were all auctioned off in like July 2024.

I wondered about Shady Lane. I hadn't gone there in prob 10 years but when I went it was packed on a Friday night. Almost to the point where it wasn't fun because the was so much smoke from the campfire rings and with all the people it felt like it was just one big party.

Surprised they couldn't make a go of it, but I don't know how busy they were the rest of the year.
