KPTM just reported the city is getting around to demolishing its remains. It will take 5 days. City workers were on it today.

I caught the story too. It's sad that this all happened over 5 years ago and is still not fully resolved.

I agree - Frankie was never at fault here but got |expletive| by the city.
He would have had a great location if everything worked out.
RIP Frankie Pane's.

I don't see why they could have saved the front of the building and build new in behind it.Coyote wrote:I agree - Frankie was never at fault here but got |expletive| by the city.

I thought that was what he was trying to get the city to agree to. (I know - bad syntax)
The city apparently did not agree with the damage assessment so they Minarded him.

Did the city screw him or the insurance company? Is the city self-insured for this type of behavior. I still firmly believe if he had a strong case for what wanted, he could have won a judgment in court.

Frankie Pane's building will soon be history

It's been five years since Frankie Pane's downtown building was destroyed by a botched demolition job, but the crumbling facade has stayed as a reminder of the bar and catering business that was once there.
Not for long.
The city is finally moving forward with its long-planned demolition of the building's remnants, said City Attorney Paul Kratz.
The removal could begin as soon as today, Kratz said, though he did not know when the work would be completed. Crews had heavy equipment at the site this morning, but hadn't yet started their work. The iconic sign featuring a stylized martini glass was gone, however.
Omaha has had a $50,650 contract with an excavation company to take the facade down since March 2006, but the work was delayed by concerns of the owner of the adjacent Christian Specht building, Kratz said.

|expletive|, give me $10,000, and i'll buy my own sledge hammer and take it down. Surely i could have gotten it done in the last year and a half, working on weekends. I'd probably get it done in one weekend, with the help of a buddy or two, and it'd just cost me a case of beer.Brad wrote:Frankie Pane's building will soon be history

P.S. I'd be sure to not swing too hard and knock down the christian building next to it

What is the status of the property? Is Frankie going to rebuild or did he sell it to the City as part of the settlement?

As of 11-20-2007, he still owned it. However he is only being taxed for his .06 Acres land not not the buildingRaraavis wrote:What is the status of the property? Is Frankie going to rebuild or did he sell it to the City as part of the settlement?

I saw 2 guys looking in the "Hole" where Payne's use to be the other night. What happened there, I thought they came up with a compromise to fill that thing in a while ago?
