I'm sure there's a huge untapped market for half-gallons of custom made ice cream for $40 and gallons for $60. Maybe they want to be the Omaha Steaks of frozen desserts.

So here's some inside scoop: T & W and eC are completely separate. eCreamery is 100% midtown family owned with same great handchurned ice cream but with an expanded menu of gelato, coffee/ice cream drinks, free wifi and customer service from people who actually like customers. (Evidently there were literally boycotts of the past TW due to rude service and the current ownership wanted to see that change.) Yeah, I hear the online business of customized, create your own flavor is going over like crazy especially on the coasts with celebs and such craziness (it's in InStyle in February) but it is pricey since it's all custom made (packaging etc). At the Dundee store you can order custom flavors (choose ingredients, name, packaging etc) for $10 a pint or $15 a quart. Online prices are a minimum of a half gallon for $39.99. Lucky local pricing discount.

Went to eCreamery last night for the first time since the switch from T&W and was not impressed. The gelato was icy and flavorless, and the ice cream lacked the strong flavors that makes T&W so amazing. The service, while not rude, was nothing special. Of course I never had a problem with the old staff. I think irony of jaded 20 somethings behind the counter of a colorful ice cream store added to the charm for me...

Yeah, I kind of liked the old staff. At least that same guy sitting at the bar in the window on his laptop is still there. Makes it feel like home.

$10 for a pint vs. $39.99 for a half gallon is not a discount, actually. It's just...smaller.
