Omaha World Herald wrote:Don't bother getting in line at Nebraska Furniture Mart for the PlayStation 3. The highly anticipated video game system will go on sale nationwide when stores open Friday, but Sony will initially send Nebraska Furniture Mart only three units.
Nebraska Furniture Mart officials feared that many who are standing in line for days to get the PS3 will turn around and sell them for a big profit. Gaming experts expect early buyers to "flip" their PS3s on Web sites such as eBay and Craigslist for $1,500 to $2,000 and up.

PS3 is fugly but inside, WHAOW awesome hardware. Although it could use solid state storage and more memory that Cell Broadband Engine is out of this world.

Meh. I'm sticking with my 360. PS3 won't have anything close to Gears of War for a long time.
BTW, my gamertag is on the left, if you are on Live look me up!
***EDIT***
What the heck is up with my Avatar? Is the new Photo rescaling making it smaller? It isn't even readable anymore.
My Gamertag is Fastshutter.

On the Jim Rome Show today, he said that a guy payed 50 homeless people to wait in line and buy the systems for him.
Of course Jim Rome let the emailers and callers decisde weither that was a good thing or bad thing!

Same thing happened in Japan. It was so rampant, television news crews had a hard time interviewing people who purchased a PS3 because they knew nothing about it, and were only interested in making a quick buck. I saw a picture floating round the 'nets of a pile of PS3's one guy had purchased by using homeless people to stand in line for him. At the going rate of $1600 on ebay, he stood to gain ~$20,000 on one days haul.

speaking as a hardware geek IMO apple should of chosen the CBE (as apposed to x86) and its phenomenal power potential plus it is RISC something macintosh should know very well.

Yeah I got that from some of my buddies, but the PS3 has HD. So I say to them, do you have a HD tv?Uh, no. Buying a HD system and then playing it on a standard def TV is like having a 600HP car but having the rev limiter set at 3K. Paying 4-500 dollars for a game system is retarded IMO anyways. Don't get me wrong, as a tech, the stuff in the PS3 is awesome, but I'm not paying for it for playing games.
A friend of mine is getting a Wii, Im looking forward to playing with it. Theres only so far you can push the "it looks pretty" for gaming, I want something actually new to gaming like the Wii motion controller.

I agree that the PS3 comes with so much extra |expletive| that who cares. I'd much rather pay $3-400, and not have some built in DVD player, WI-FI internet access, and HD stuff. I already have a DVD player and really don't care if it's not as clear of a picture as the PS3 thing, I also (obviously) have internet access. They're trying to make it something it doesn't need to be. Why not just make gaming systems for gaming?

The Xbox branded wireless adapters retail for $99, so having built in Wifi is a big plus to the PS3. Unless you don't play any multiplayer games over the internet.

Check this out, this is why I dig the CBE so much.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_Broadband_EngineDespite those challenges, the latest research in this field showed that Cell is capable of performing any type of precision scientific calculations 3 to 12 times faster than any desktop processor at a similar clock speed, including Itanium 2 1.4 and Opteron 248.[2]

Is it just me, or does the PS3 look like First National?

I hope sony will give the PS3 incremental updates such as double the ram and adding a solid state drive option later in its life.

Well, the problem with this kind of thing is it breaks the biggest draw of a console - a fixed platform. If you suddenly start having games that require more memory, then you leave out the entire crowd of first generation adopters. You upset off a lot of people. That's why it doesn't usually happen.MTO wrote:and the xbox360 could be anorexics woodmen

Plus, it'll be awhile before Sony actually gets anywhere close to making a profit off this thing. I doubt they're going to add build cost while it's losing them almost $300 on every box they sell.

if they can make the ps3 play ps2 games then slapping a gig or more of ram shouldn't prevent any problems. just give more power for future games.

I was in the Nebraska Furniture Mart yesterday and for the FIRST TIME ANYWHERE I saw a stock of wii game counsels on the sales floor. There was an end cap with 25-30 systems sitting there ready to go.

I don't think Wii's have been that hard to come by. I got mine at midnight when they came out, and since then I've seen plenty in stores. Never any stock piles but 2-3 here or there.
PS3's are easy to find, which is good because it makes for a good Blu-Ray player.

Wii's have been easy to find? Not quite - although they haven't been bouncing off of eBay at $500 a pop anymore, they sure as heck aren't just chillin' out on store's shelves like milk. If the Mart had that many on hand at once, they had to have just received in a shipment. Now, PS3's on the other hand, well, let's just say Sony bit the big one on that piece... Not only do they lose money on every console they sell, they can't sell them! They're in 3rd place, behind the Wii, then XBox right now - ever since the Nintendo came out, it's been killing both of those systems - Which, I find a bit humorous. Quite honestly, I truly appreciate the graphics and power capability, so I'm even a bit surprised they've been selling so well - and, Nintendo actually makes about $50 per unit at wholesale.SychoBC wrote:I don't think Wii's have been that hard to come by. I don't care if the Big 3 go back to 8-bit NES style graphics... just give me something fun to play instead of a bazillion iterations of Doom. I think the Wii is the closest to figuring that out.

No kidding... I mean, like how many blocks would you have to otherwise 'walk' to play a game of real tennis anyway?

First time anywhere? Shootfire, at Christmastime (weekend after Thanksgiving anyway), Best Buy had a whole pile of them sitting on the floor, no PS3's anywhere. That weekend, of course, was enough to cure me of going to Best Buy for 6 months...nebugeater wrote:I was in the Nebraska Furniture Mart yesterday and for the FIRST TIME ANYWHERE I saw a stock of wii game counsels on the sales floor. Maybe just a coincidence, but whenever I can't find something at the Omaha stores... it seems like I can always find it over at Manawa.

Yes, And I have been watching a bit because I have been considering getting one. I have never seen a stock on the floor weather it be a game shop, Target, Wally Word., electronics store or any place. I am not going to stand in line or get on a waiting list. I have seen stock show up and people there waiting for them a while back. I was a bit surprised to see that amy sitting at NFM but as I read elsewhere it seems the inventory is there now over the last two weeks and they will be had for anyone that wants them now. By the way, I didn't buy one yet so mine was still there for someone to get.
As for PS3's they are everywhere.
By the way does anyone have any experience with he Xavis game system? Kind of like the Wii but without the name brand. Actually been around a little longer.

According to the friend of the woman who filmed this - there were no TVs harmed in this filming - the glass that shattered was the glass door covering the entertainment shelf door.

One of my buddies chucked the Wii-mote off of another friends TV. The batteries flew out but luckily the TV and the mote were both ok. I recommend using the wrist strap that comes with it.
