This reminds me of what I saw while driving by the MoFo site last night on my 1.5hr trek home. Despite the wind, snow and cold, cement trucks were lined up down Farnam, flood lights mounted in the tower cranes were on and they were pouring away. Well done!

There's updated info on the website for Midtown Crossing.

Here's a link to a new layout, which is the first I've seen with basic floor plans for the condo and apartment towers.

Not too shabby. It really gives you an idea of just how many people are going to be in and around there...it's definitely going to have a bigger impact on midtown than it simply being constructed. I wonder what kind of impact the housing slump will have on pricing for units...or if mortgage companies look at them any differently.

What project is this? Must have sprung up overnight.

Kidding. That s.o.b. is movin like a damned freight train! The project is massive, i can't believe the progress they are making. I was nervous for a while there while they were doing ground work (always the boring part of any construction phase), but it's looking good. It's cool to see Omaha's 3 skylines develop.

This Guy Should Move to Elkhorn! :;):

Homeowner files suit against Omaha over moving of sculptures

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=2 ... d=10246760
The controversy over the Sounding Stones had quieted down...until now.

A homeowner across the street from Elmwood Park filed a lawsuit today against the City of Omaha for moving the Sounding Stones — five large concrete sculptures — to their new home near the intersection of Happy Hollow Boulevard and Dodge Street. The city contends that it did nothing wrong.

Gregory Searson’s lawsuit argues that moving the sculptures from Turner Park in December was illegal because it was done without the approval of the Omaha City Council. The suit claims that Mayor Mike Fahey did not have the authority to order the move without the council signing off.

The suit also cites a 1973 Nebraska Supreme Court decision in which the city was prevented from allowing the University of Nebraska at Omaha from turning part of Elmwood Park into a parking garage because it was not the intended purpose of the park.

"They have changed the purpose of the park," said Deborah Trivitt, a spokeswoman for Searson. "In essence, they’ve created an art gallery. That’s what the lawsuit is saying."

Questions..

Post by julyfire »

Hi - just registered, but I had some questions about this project. I'm very excited about it, as I live on the southeast end of Dundee. I've been hearing lots of different rumors, so I thought I'd do a web search and came upon this forum.

You all have such great info and photos!

Some things I have been wondering though -

1) Is there no department store anchor planned for this site? I had heard from a couple people that there would be a Nordstrom. Sad sigh on my part if that is only an unfounded rumor!

2) Is there really no hotel planned for any part of this project? That seems amazing to me, since there is already such an incredible lack of hotels in the Dundee/UNO/Midtown/Med Center area. When my family comes to visit, they have to go all the way downtown for a hotel. It would be so convenient to have one closer! Admittedly, I was uneducated about this project before I found this site (had just seen the construction and heard vague rumors) but it seems to me that it would be IDEAL to have a nice hotel with it (like the ones at Crown Center in KC, for example). I guess I had just assumed that it would.

3) A fountain and/or pond in the park area? I hope so, but I'm not seeing any mention.

4) The streetcar line that was planned awhile back is dead, right? :( That makes me so sad. It would have been awesome to walk to the stop from our house and ride either here or downtown.

Anyway, forgive me if I am being rude by signing up and then immediately asking so many questions, but I am very curious about it!

Welcome to eOmahaForums Julyfire! There are never too many questions.

So far there has been only two anchor tenants announced - Douglas Theatres and Prairie Life Fitness. They will also have a "Full-service grocery market." There have been rumors of other retail but nothing is official at this time.

It would have been nice to see a hotel in this area but this is not in their plans - they will only have furnished corporate extended stay residences. I agree midtown is lacking hotel space but this project will not alleviate this problem.

The streetcar line has not been abandoned - just taking time to come together. The first phase will probably not make it to Midtown Crossing - but the second phase most likely will.

I have not seen any rendering that shows a fountain or pool but you never know what may come later. Here is the most up to date rendering that I know.

Its beautiful, I can't wait to see the finished product! When I worked at MOO, they had a model of Midtown crossing and the immediate surrounding area in the MOO cafeteria. This location will be the pride of MidTown if not all of Omaha. :)

I don't think this development in-and-of-itself needs a hotel. It's going to spur so much development in the Midtown area, and I'm sure that will include new, urban hotels.

And, expect the second phase of the streetcar project to include Midtown (phase one still being on the drawing board of course).

Speaking of which...:

Hotels see room at Midtown Crossing
Omaha World Herald wrote:Several hotel companies have approached Mutual with proposals, spokesman Jim Nolan said Tuesday, but the original plans didn't include a hotel and so far there's nothing to announce. If Mutual adds a hotel, he said, it would hire a hotel company to run it. "We wouldn't operate a restaurant either. We'd look to the pros to operate a hotel."

and a little humor from the same article:
One thing is certain, Nolan said: "I can guarantee you there's no room for a baseball diamond."

Hm, it's been about a month since the last photo update ... *hint hint*

Heh, mind me, I've just been out of the country for the last couple of months and never got a chance to see how all this was going down. So, naturally I'm very curious to see how development in my hometown is going. I'm sure you all understand. :;):

On another note, agreed, hopefully a hotel does move in. I'm sure it would spur development even farther in this area of town, which couldn't hurt. :D
... wait, what?
