Couldn't one Jerry rig a quarter pounder to do the same? Wasn't the Arch Deluxe basically their version of a Whopper?ChadJK wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 9:50 amNot to be confused with the Arch Deluxe of the late 1990s. The Big Arch looks like a monster. Seems like a Big Mac with a little different sauce and cheese with crispy onions. I'm not too sure about trying it.

You could probably approximate it. The Arch Deluxe had, among other things, Dijonnaise, peppered bacon, and a potato bun. So, I'm not sure if they still have any of those three ingredients.Busguy2010 wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 2:34 pmCouldn't one Jerry rig a quarter pounder to do the same? You can recreate a lot of old fast food recipes if you know what item to start with and what to customize. Unfortunately, at some places those customizations can really add up to a pricey substitute. Also, if it had some unique sauce that doesn't exist anymore then you're SOL.

It may just be me, but there are not many fast food things that I want to recreate at home. This is for recreating them at the restaurant by customizing other similar items on the menu.nebugeater wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 2:50 pmIt may just be me, but there are not many fast food things that I want to recreate at home. There's entire websites out there that tell people what customizations to make to other items to turn them into their favorite discontinued items. With the proliferation of apps for ordering from restaurants, doing a lot of crazy customization is super easy.

I do like to replicate parts of taco bell. When I make quesadillas at home, I make a copycat taco bell sauce for them. There's also a few Ruby Tuesday recipes that I tried making; Sonora Chicken Pasta and their salad bar pasta salad.nebugeater wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 2:50 pmIt may just be me, but there are not many fast food things that I want to recreate at home. I'm not gonna lie, I make double decker tacos at home when we have taco night. They don't taste the same since we use a scratch made taco season and the refried beans are black beans, but the end product is good.

My family always used to make double decker tacos when I was growing up. I'm sort of surprised they aren't more common. Not only is it more hearty, it fixes an issue I have always had with hard shell tacos - the fact they break apart as you eat them. While fresher shells are not as bad, I have always found them messy in general. The refined beans really help hold everything together.Brad wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 4:35 pmI'm not gonna lie, I make double decker tacos at home when we have taco night. Re: Fast Food Talk Thread
Seems like a good call to put them in a box. I cant remember how long its been since McDonalds has been putting their quarter pounder and other "premium" items in boxes.
Its been a hot minute since ive had a plain old whopper. I'm fixing to have the maple bourbon BBQ whopper before they're gone - thats one of the best ones they've come up with.
My main gripe with the whopper is indeed how messy it is. They could use better tomatoes, and i'm not really a fan of the iceberg lettuce pieces. I'd much prefer leaf lettuce. Also wish the onions were more substantial. They cut them so thin they kind of get lost in the sauce and turn into a wormy textured mess.
Long as they're still $3.99 on Wednesdays, I won't complain about any improvements they want to make.

Re: Fast Food Talk Thread (KFC)
First time at KFC in a long time. I was reading the ingredients on their "Honey Sauce" (note that they don't call it just "honey"). I noted to myself like 15 years ago that it wasn't 100% honey. Well, it's worse now. It has decreased from 11% real honey to just 7% real honey. It's basically honey-flavored corn syrup.

Re: Fast Food Talk Thread (KFC)
Haven't had KFC in quite a while, but I never used their "honey", "nor their "butter" packets, which I'm sure are hydrogenated oil and butter flavor. Much like any cheap maple syrup isn't actually maple syrup. Just have to know the arena. It is fast food.ChadJK wrote: Wed Mar 04, 2026 2:21 pm First time at KFC in a long time. I haven't really had KFC since when they first came out with the Nashville Hot Chicken. I was hooked on that stuff until they took it away. That was one of the most exciting limited time food items from any fast food place. From what I understand, they brought it back for good and I had it a couple more times since, but they were really skimpy with the hot oil. Been several years, maybe it's time to give that another shot. Sounds pretty good about now.

KFC has another place that has pretty decent deals on their app. We have gotten the two chicken sandwich and four chicken tenders with four sides and two drinks to share for our family, and I think it’s only $17. I think their chicken sandwich tastes better than any chicken sandwich I’ve ever had at Chick-fil-A.

Tried the Big Arch from McDonalds the other day. It's basically two quarter pound patties, lettuce, white american cheese, crispy fried onions and a big arch sauce. I think it would be better with big mac sauce. It's subtle in difference, but noticeable.

Its just hilarious how the McDonald's CEO is getting grilled for how uncomfortable he looked eating the Big Arch. Even BK is getting in on it. Great advertising op for BK. McDonalds kinda dug their own grave on that one.
For me personally, even before I saw that taste test video, the Big Arch really didnt seem too intriguing to me. It looks like just a double quarter pounder version of a Big Mac, with a slightly different sauce. Not too original in my book. And a double quarter pounder is a bit much in my stomach, so I'd probably opt for a single version if I ever wanted to try it. So probably a pass for me.

The Wendy's CEO one-upped McDonald's by eating the food like it's something he's been eating his entire life. He even made a joke by asking if the Frosty machine was working and then said something like, "Oh yea, ours are always working." The crowd favorite on social media was when he dipped his fries in his Frosty. Wendy's has made some horrible decisions in the last 10+ years, but that was a masterful response to McDonald's fail.Busguy2010 wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 11:13 am Its just hilarious how the McDonald's CEO is getting grilled for how uncomfortable he looked eating the Big Arch. I'm not Catholic or Orthodox, so I usually make it a point to go have a steak or barbeque for lunch or dinner on Fridays in Lent to amuse myself and enjoy the reduced crowd at those places.Padre wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 5:53 pm I’ve been exploring the various fast food lenten options, and two that I’ve enjoyed have been Wienerschnitzel fish and chips, and shrimp from Don and Millie’s. That said, the Walleye at Culver's is very good, but I hear most locations have run out and they've removed it from their website. I haven't tried it yet, but I do hear good things about the seafood options at Popeye's.
Culver's: https://www.culvers.com/menu/seafood
Popeye's: https://www.popeyes.com/menu/section/80 ... b9cb1fe645
It doesn't have to be fast food either. Shucks and Catfish Lake are tasty options. I'm a sucker for fresh oysters, fried Walleye, and southern-style fried Catfish.
Shucks: https://www.shucksfishhouse.com/
Catfish Lake: https://catfishlakeatthelodge.com/
I will say, if you're really strict on the no red meat on Fridays during Lent, then many Clam Chowders start with bacon and Baked Beans (a favorite side at many local Fish Frys) usually contain pork fat unless they make it a point to buy vegetarian beans.

As a recovering Catholic I also used to make a point of going to steakhouses during Fridays in Lent to avoid dealing with the crowds at seafood focused restaurants.

I'm always a bit puzzled by the response to Friday abstinence. The law is to abstain from meat. But we respond almost as if the law obliged us to eat fish.

In theory, one is supposed to be avoiding the meat of warm blooded creatures, and fish is the most accessible. Other possibilities I’ve heard of are alligator and rattlesnake. I think we can see why they might be rare.remline wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 1:18 pm I'm always a bit puzzled by the response to Friday abstinence. The law is to abstain from meat. Yer some have tried to stretch the definition of a fish, to those animals that spent a lot of rime in water. This meant one could include the meat of beavers, or ducks!

Re: Fast Food Talk Thread
I haven't been to BK since they did their "recommitment". In summary, since the McDonald's CEO Big Arch debacle, BK swiftly took advantage of the misstep by improving the Whopper and launching a new branding that included a commercial admitting that they sucked and they are recommitted to a better product. "There's a new king, and its you" instead of that silly "BK, have it your way, you rule" jingle.
Anywho, being Wednesday and the improvements made, I was curious if Whopper Wednesday is still a deal, and it is. Might just be my day to try the new and improved Whopper. Though I have doubts its really all that different, but if its still $3.99, Ill have no complaints. Has anybody tried it since?

I had the new whopper, but it was about a 20 minute wait to consume it so it wasn't piping hot. It came in a box and the bun was better, but I think it overall tasted the same. I also don't eat a whopper more than 1-2 times a year.

I dont think I ever did get around to BK yet this year. I wanted to try that Whopper by you thing in the ap, but their ingredients are fairly limited, its basically "what do you not like on your Whopper" rather than "build your own".
One thing they can always bring back is the Stacker. I mean, I don't get what's so hard about recognizing one of your all time best items and offering it. But then again im not BK.

I’ve always been of the mindset of eating out to have something I can’t readily make at home. I can wrap a hotdog in a slice of cheese and a tortilla at home, and for a lot less.ChadJK wrote: Thu Apr 16, 2026 11:36 am The Yankee Burrito is back at Amigos for a limited time:

Hot dogs have to have char for me. That looks like the blandest most unappealing boiled Bar-S hot dog imaginable. Seems more like a QT item that should be $2.
