The pizza shell for Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza was exactly the same as the one was for their Taco Salad. The only difference was the size and shape. They were both designed to crisp and puff in the fryer. So, since they were rid of both the Taco Salad and the Mexican Pizza for awhile they probably had to ramp up production of those deep-fryer-optimized flour tortillas using new vendors and they may have changed the recipe in the process. Though, it's also likely that fans have put the pizza on a mental pedestal and now it will never live up to their expectations.

I liked the Mexican Pizza. I always ordered mine with extra cheese and extra sauce and hold the tomatoes (there's chunks of tomatoes in the sauce - putting them on top seems redundant). Their attempt to cut it into slices was always amusing. You usually ended up eating it with a fork. I haven't tried the resurrected pizza yet.

I'd like them to bring back their Wild sauce. It was pretty tasty stuff. They had it like twice. Once in like 1993 and again in like 1999 or so. It was a spicy sauce and you could order any item on the menu "Wild" and they'd use that sauce instead. So, a "Wild Bean Burrito" would be a bean burrito without their standard red sauce but with spicy Wild sauce on it instead. So tasty.... I am now drooling at the memory.

I have yet to try the Taco Bell mexican pizza, I did get an offer for a free one on the app, so I was thinking of giving it a shot.

What I do miss is the mexican pizza at Taco Johns. It was made by frying a pita shell bread, then using meat, beans and salsa spread onto the shell, topped with lettuce, sour cream and and olive on each slice. I thought it was a good combo and was similar to the bread for a gordita. The Taco Bell one just doesn't look as nice.

I remember when Taco Bell sold their Fiesta potatoes just plain without anything on them. Now they pour cheese and some other white (sour?) cream onto them.

You’ll likely need to wait awhile now to try one. Mexican Pizza’s have been sold out at most Taco Bell locations nationwide-

Yeah, they’re not anything great. But the Mexican Pizza is not horrible either. The rest of the US seems to care though. Enough that they’ve purchased so many, Taco Bell has run out of them. It’s obviously a very popular menu item. If they were smart, Arby’s would take notice and plan to resurrect their Potato Cakes. That would likely be met with a similar demand. Most people loved that iconic menu item too.

I agree there. Whoever is turning the wheels with Taco Bell seems to be a master of manipulation, no doubt. It seems like they knew they'd have a limited amount of the flat disc shaped tortillas or the packaging for the pizza, but they did a good job not leaking it for a few weeks. They did their job. Exhausted their inventory.

If Arby's was smart, they would bring back Potato Cakes, but again like the Mexican Pizza, I just can't find the allure.

The best part of Arby's was working there part time in HS and sneaking frozen cookie dough chunks out of the walk in. I miss that location, too - the one on 44th and Dodge St. Takes me back to the days of Target on Saddle Creek. Speaking of, does anyone have inside pics of that Target?

Or if you go to Popeyes and order their chicken sandwich only to find they’re out of the chicken fillets to prepare them..It goes on and on with many of these quick food establishments…

I used to work at TB way back in the day. We frequently ran out of stuff toward then end of the day. Usually because we forecasted wrong on how much we would need. Admittedly, we sometimes made a game out of just how little carry-over we had each night. If I was scraping the last of the taco meat out of the pan for the last taco for the last customer then I win!!! lol

I would imagine the same is true for breakfast. Since breakfast isn't served all day they try to predict how much they'll need before they stop serving breakfast. Sometimes they get it wrong and the customers are mad. Sometimes they get it just right and everyone's happy. Sometimes they have way too much carryover at the end of breakfast and the managers are mad.

At least late night we could be rude to the customers because back then there weren't many late night options. So, if a customer was irate with us, then we could always tell them to píss off and take their lazy butt to the 24-hour grocery store down the street and then go home and cook their damn dinner. That probably wouldn't fly today with so much more competition and the reality that every time a voice gets raised a half dozen people start recording the scene with their phone.

I remember trying them on the way back from the airport in Kansas City. I thought they were better than average, but nothing that caused me to have a yearning for them.

I had for got about Arby's onion rings. I had them. If memory serves they were better than BK's but not as good as Runza's.

Has anyone tried the new Wagyu Burger at Arby's? I did one this last week, thought it was pretty good. However their curly fries were bad.

I tried it as well and thought it was quite good and should eventually be a permanent offering (or at least brought buy regularly like the McRib). I don't get their curly fries since I really like their crinkle cuts (though if potato cakes were still an option would get those). Both of my boys really like their curly fries. A lot.

Lately, it feels like every restaurant I walk into has wagyu burgers (two very recent examples: I was just at Hail Varsity Club for lunch today and every burger on their menu is wagyu and when I was browsing Timber Wood Fire Grill's menu yesterday I noticed their burger is wagyu). Though, if there's any type of meat that does NOT need to be the quality of good wagyu then it's probably hamburger. It's a gimmick. Like, "Certified Angus" burgers. If it's a steak, then sure. Otherwise, I roll my eyes.

I feel like they're playing off people's ignorance. People have this perception of wagyu that comes from hearing about or experiencing something superb like Japanese-raised A5 Wagyu. In reality, it's just wagyu-breed cattle from down the road.

It was a pretty good burger. They certainly have a pretty unique way of preparing it-

Just for the record, the Abelardo's in the former Village Inn at 44th & Dodge is now open, finally. I drove by there perhaps 10 days to two weeks ago, and they were open then. Guessing they might have opened on June 1st or something like that.

Here's a question: Does anyone still get donuts from Winchell's? If anyone remembers them, they were pretty big back in the 70's and 80's. They were the Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts during that time period.

I used to occasionally when they were still in the Amigos on Dodge. 120th is too far for me to go just for a donut.

When I lived in Denver, we went to LeMars Donuts. But the only one here is even further away!

There’s a Winchell’s close to my residence off 120th and West Center Rd..

I go there occasionally. They still have the best tasting Apple Fritters in my opinion…

On North 48th in Lincoln a few years ago when the Amigo's was still open, I went there one night for dinner. Winchell's was there, too. And they offered me a donut. It was pretty good I'd say.

About fifteen years ago, I could have sworn that they were using beef tallow for their frying medium. The last time I went was 7-8 years ago, their cinnamon rolls didn't contain detectable levels of cinnamon.

Never again.

This could be a hybrid fast food/condiment discussion comment... But I just got Chik-fil-a, which is a rarity in itself, and I got a side salad with a balsamic vinaigrette, and along with my chicken sandwich, I asked for some Honey Roasted BBQ sauce packets. I took it home, and I got a crazy idea to mix the balsamic vinaigrette with two packets of Honey Roasted BBQ, whisked it all into one, and I gotta tell ya, we may be onto something here. Anybody who frequents Chik-fil-a and gets the side salad, this is worth a try.

I’ve never eaten a salad at Chick Fil A..But I’ve heard they’re pretty good..

Like you, I might have Chick Fil A once every 2 or 3 months, so I’m not a frequent customer. Their food, while not anything special, is pretty solid imo- especially their waffle fries…
