That site was already an option for the failed attempt to bring a park to CB.

well didnt it fail b/c of financing....regardless of the site nothing will happen unless its soundly financed

It was finances. I would almost favor an CB site for the park instead of a Nebraska one because it doesn't matter if it's between Omaha and Lincoln, people are still going to come. But also for the chance that Omaha could benefit more with drawing people that are closer. If it's in a rural/burb setting people might be more reluctant to travel in to Omaha.

Maybe it could strattle the Missouri somewhere south of town and make everyone happy. They could call it Happy River Land and it could have such rides as the I-Made-a-Wrong-Turn-and-Ended-up-somewhere-in-Iowa bumper cars, or the Crazy Riverboat white water rapids ride, or a rollar coaster called "The Trippy Tornado." There could also be a cheesy monument to commemorate things that happened on the river and the two states, like a big stock of corn or something.......or a gigantic railroad spike.

Crazy riverboat white water rapids? I'm there. Don't forget the AARASCO Scrapyard and Lead Smeltering Theater and the 3-eyed radioactive Catfish petting zoo next to the Ameristar Amusement Bingo Parlor.

Not anymore. Hopefully, as futile as it may be, his replacement has some sort of actual relevant experience and credentials to the technical fields the FCC governs.

As much as I would love this rumor to be true, I am pretty certain it is false. I had dinner with a friend of mine who is a manager at OPPD. He manages the engineering group responsible for preventative maintenace (PM) and upgrades for OPPD's facilities. I asked him about the rumor and he says he hasn't heard anything about a project like that, and he was sure they would have mentioned it in a managers meeting. He also wasn't sure if the Mahoney area was even under OPPD's jusidiction (He has never done PM projects out there) and that it would have been an NPPD issue.

He pretty much settled the issue for me.

OPPD's jurisdiction goes pretty far. They have a big plant like the one in north Omaha down just south of Nebraska City which is about 50 miles away. I think it probably is true. Not everyone that works in hte same place knows aout everything going on. I don't even know what's going on in my house sometimes. So it is likely that who ever it was that started this may have been lucky enough to get some valuable, true info.

Not that it lends any support to this highly speculative rumor... but yes, Mahoney is within OPPD's service area.

Okay, I talked to the source (the OPPD employee) and he said that it was true, and that they were interested in 60 acres west of Mahoney, but that they haven't filed any permits yet.

So consider the issue unsettled, Bradley.

60 acres? That's it. That's no where near a Worlds of Fun sized place. My grandpa owns 80 acres out by Hastings and you couldn't even fit all of Worlds of Fun in that. I hope they ahve enough land around the site to expand or this amusement park won't be all that.

Hardly. After going to WofF's webite it says that Oceans of Fun alone is 60 acres. W&O of Fun are 235 acres combined. If this Omaha amusement park is true they should either out build our competition or not even bother. It's probably going to cost the same price but who's going to want to go to a glorified Fun-Plex when W&O of Fun adn Adventureland aren't that far away.

But that's DT though so it doesn't need to be that big to be cool. But the OPPD guy who said this apparently is supposed to be like Worlds of Fun might be a bit inaccurate.

Exactly! It took years and years to get worlds of fun as big as it is today. We can't just build a huge amusement park over night. It will take time to get one that big.

Well, guys, I'm sure if this is true the planners are taking all of our concerns into consideration.

And damn. I was hoping it would be east of Mahoney. But again, I don't care as long as somebody just builds it already! I hope this isn't still Steve Minard's folly. That dude can't get it done, and he's led us on too many times in the past.

Think about it. A couple years ago he was constantly quoted as saying |expletive| like, "In one year's time Omaha will have its amusement park," etc. And look, nothing.

And what the heck is with that map data????

13 counties in eastern Nebraska and they say "over 300,000" customers? What the heck? There's over 400,000 people in Douglas County alone. I wonder if they don't consider anyone who benefits from electricity in their daily lives a customer. Maybe they consider customers individual businesses and households. I guess that would explain that low number.

Ah Streets, I think anyone who trades with OPPD is a customer. I enjoy electricity, but have absolutely know interaction with OPPD.

I wonder if the amusement park will be an independant one like KC's ro DM's or if we will get a Six Flags or other amusement park "chain." The last few attempts by local people haven't happened. I remember seeing signs for the return of Peony Park and then there was the CB park proposal. Regaurdless of size I hope that we have something that will blow all the other close parks out of the water.

Why don't we just build a huge destination resort instead of some dinky amusement park?

A variety of things like a venetian (minus casino)/disney world/water park.

Im surprised worlds of fun isnt better than it is. It is owned by the people who own Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. I dont know if any of you have been there, but it has to be the greatest amusement park on earth!

Yea I've been to Cedar Point and it is pretty cool. Worlds of Boredom just announced they are going to build multiple cabins for geusts. WE WANT A ROLLER COASTER NOT CABINS!

Wouldn't that be slick if there were some kind of 'Six Flags over the Plains' park worked into this deal.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World is only 107 acres. MGM: 154, Epcot: 260 (with lake in the middle) Animal Kingdom: 500 (with Safari).

The All stars Movie Resort sits on 62 acres, If you have been there, the place is pretty big. Holds almost 2,000 rooms, a food court, and a few pools.

60 acres should be a good size to start an amusement park with. I wonder, does that include the parking lot too?

As long as it has a decent roller coaster or two I will be happy amusement parks aren't something I would see myself attending more than once or twice a year unless it had some appeal. 60 acres really isn't big but if its 60 acres of roller coasters I'd love it!
