Ended/Reduced OMA Air Service

Post by Ryan Air »

Thought I’d start two new topics since Omaha Eppley Airfield is likely to have major announcements and construction very soon- that way it’s easier to discuss air service vs. actual OMA/OAA stuff

Allegiant extended the schedule for next winter, Punta Gorda, FL appears like it isn't coming back. Also, Tampa/ St Pete goes down to only 1x per week vs 2x per week next winter.

Alaska decided to end Portland, OR in the middle of August vs November 1st, not sure if this is seasonal or permanent. Alaska needs to have the flight arrive at 930pm vs midnight or 1am into Omaha. This would appeal to a much larger catchment area and I'm convinced would make the flight successful. United SFO flight was arriving at 945pm and living in Des Moines, I made the drive 3 times for the nonstop and was home by midnight. No way I would take that Portland flight getting into Omaha at midnight or 1am. Even if I lived in Lincoln, I wouldn't take the Portland flight with a 1am arrival right now. I know it means it stays on the ground longer but if it brings in twice the revenue, isn't it worth it? Eppley administration needs to be actively trying to get a time adjustment to a 8am departure from Omaha and 930 or 945pm arrival into Omaha (mirror what the SFO schedule used to be on United).

Any Allegiant service ending is music to my ears!! One day I hope OMA is Allegiant-free.

PDX flight is weird - there is a huge thread about PDX and Alaska with regard to big changes having little to do with profitability. I don’t mind getting in at 1 A.M.- but I live in Omaha...

Several sources contradict one another with regard to PDX.
I have read it is permanent (ending) and AS employee said it’s not and is still seasonal. So I guess we will see.

Well that screws up my cheap flight to St Pete

WN looks like it’s ending OMA-LAX and PIT-LAX after Jan 6, according to Airliners. Some think these may be an error.
WN just announced the year round LAX service (from seasonal) from OMA. Seems a little odd that they’d cut it without any data or even a chance.

We shall see

That is bizarre, especially since AA downgauged from their original A319 to a RJ. LAX is pretty much an open city in that it's no one's hub but everyone's focus city, DL or UA or even F9 could make a case for service.

It seems like they have quit several long routes for Jan-Feb nationwide. Assuming because fuel went up. It says LAX is seasonal, but will seasonal mean returning for the busy spring break schedule, returning May 1 before Berkshire, or not returning until the 2nd week of June like it has for the last several years. In my mind, it is covered by AA year round on a 76-seat jet and it would make sense for Southwest to run this route for 10 months out of the year and not run it January - February. Both WN and AA being on this route in the Jan-Feb low season is too much capacity for this route. I hope it returns in March, not June is my only wish.

Looks like Frontier OMA-RSW is not coming back this winter.
Allegiant ended South Florida service too.
Looks like the only S FL service from Omaha will be AA OMA-MIA

Well starting in January until the end of May, allegiant will only be flying on Saturdays to St Pete. Punta Gorda will still have Wed\Sat and Sanford/Orlando - Sunday/Thursday. Plus price went up for st Pete ...argh

It was seasonal. F9 is odd about announcements. From what I understand it WILL NOT be back. But I’ve been told that before and suddenly it’s back.

Keep an eye on airliners for this one. Some airlines like this one may not release everything on their first schedule release.
