PenFed has been in Omaha since 1992. Up until now they've been one of the most employee friendly companies in the Metro. A history of no layoffs and when an employee was in a job where they weren't needed they had a generous program that was called Save Pay.
The current CEO James Schenk just weakened that program and shortly thereafter announced layoffs in Omaha, Eugene OR, and Plano Tx (along with a bunch of employees that worked remotely). Just a dramatic change for the company. It's all been in the mortgage department. Sad to watch.
A group in Euguene has been looking at unionizing, the company started threatening them and even got in trouble with the NLRB for it's effort.

They have 2 locations, one at 132nd and Fort and one in Papillion off Cornhusker and 84th. Between the 2 I think around 500 employees. 22 in Omaha are a part of this (some have been there 20 years and are all making very good salaries). Omaha was lucky though, many more were hit in Eugene OR and Plano Tx.

That’s a significant layoff number- 500 total - for sure..
I hate to see anyone lose their job due to a layoff, but the Omaha metro only seeing 22 people let go, definitely dodged the bullet this go around...

Did PenFed close most of their Omaha branches? I noticed the one in Midlands Place in Papillion was closed, but I'm not sure when that happened. As best as I can tell from their website, their only legit branch in the Omaha area is the new one in Southport Centre in La Vista. The rest are all partner ATM locations or office locations without banking services. Perhaps they only ever had one branch and just moved it.
I guess this isn't a rumor, but that's the category I found the PenFed thread under.

PenFed's been pretty good to me, never been to their physical locations, signed up online and always banked online. Sorry to see those employees let go, businesses in general have tough choices to make because of economic conditions and I'm afraid it'll only get worse. All this, coupled with AI integration and automation, we're all going the way of the dinosaur.

PenFed traditionally has good rates. Been a member for about 30 years.
They have absolutely the worst bank/credit union app. It is incredibly slow, as is their website for personal banking. So slow. Kept expecting them to fix/improve it, but it's been this way for at least a couple years.
