Vacation Of Streets in the Creighton Expansion Area
I noticed in the City Council agenda for next week is the vacation of most of the streets and alleys in the area which Creighton plans to expand into. Burt, Cass California and Webster between 20th and Florence Blvd. primarily, and all the alleys between them. This would allow Creighton to carve the parcels of land into configurations that suit their future building plans. I also noticed yesterday the movement of earth behind Creighton's Performing Arts Center. Anyone know what they are doing on that plot of land?

Yeah, most likely if it's at 24th and burt. If I remember I'll try to take a few shots from the press club. They've really been hauling balls over there. The Murphy building is gone where they're putting in the new dorms and it looks like they're close to finishing grading for the two parking garages.

As we talked about a little while ago:
Three of the four new Creighton projects (student center, housing and one parking garage) are adjacent to each other on the east end of campus. The new student center will be the "front door" of campus and will front a new quad area to the west. I'm sure the quad will be developed in the near future, as its cost will be well below that of other planned buildings. This is exciting news and the concentration of the three projects will quickly have an impact in the area.
Check out the following link and scroll down the page to see a map of the proposed future improvements for campus.

Where did you dig that map up at? Everytime I want to look at a future Creighton Map I always have to dig up Schlegal's 125 speech. And, that map's super small.

For comparison to the original plan (garges were added to surface lot areas):

Mchine, go to Creighton's home page (http://www2.creighton.edu/) and hit Construction Update under the main photo.

Also, a statue known as the Millennium Milestone of Hope, will punctuate the west end of the campus mall. A fountain around the statue base is being planned. The project is expected to be completed in the second week of August.

The vacation of streets dosn't always mean there will not be streets there in the future. If there is a major rebuilding of the roads and they don't follow the former plat they need to vacate them and replat the area.

Califronia will be vacated (and not rebuilt) as the campus mall is extended to the new soccer stadium and Webster Street will also be vacated as the portion between the new Living/Learning Center and the junior/senior townhomes becomes a new grass quad.

Jeff Beals wrote about these Creighton development in this weeks City Weekly. Really good article. Too bad they don't update their site.
