Per a recent ranking by the Consumer Technology Association, Nebraska ranked 9th in the nation on an Innovation Scorecard. The ranking qualified the state for the designation of an Innovation Champion. Not surprisingly, as these issues have been identified in the Blueprint Nebraska's plan and other articles, we scored low in money spent on R&D and venture capital. Other weaknesses were identified in the scoring including no workers' protections for gender/sex orientation, a low-ish percentage of people over 25 years old holding advanced degrees, and corporate tax rate (of course). Definitely room for improvement, but many of these areas in the purview of business and civic leaders.

Re: Nebraska an Innovation Champion
I dunno why these lists always have to throw in some sort of a curve ball in their rating system. I’m not sure what openness to e-scooters and ride sharing or self driving car testing specifically has to do with an overall innovation climate. Last I knew the scooters weren’t allowed in San Francisco and yet I don’t know who’s going to dispute the area’s command of innovation activity.

Re: Nebraska an Innovation Champion
Also the advanced degree item. You don't need a degree to innovate!
