It’s that time of year again- 2019 Metro/CSA estimates coming 03/26/20-

Post by Omaha Cowboy »

One of my favorite discussions of the year. Just announced-

The 2019 US Census Metro/CSA estimates will be released to the public 2 weeks from today on March 26th..

To refresh everyone’s memory, the 2018 Omaha MSA and CSA estimates were 942,000 and 980,000 respectively..

My prediction for the 2019 estimates for Omaha-

953,000 MSA
991,000 CSA..

Inching extremely close to the 1 million mark..

Get your predictions in now. What say you?...

Oh, and just for the record, the above prediction is predicated on the assumption that the COVIDS doesn't kill off half the population. Thought that caveat needed to be mentioned.

Me too. It would fall in line with my thought that these yearly estimates from the US Census have been lowballing the Omaha MSA/CSA..

We’ll know soon enough when the official 2020 US Census numbers come out in 2021...

I'll be aggressive and say 3.5% growth for the city, putting it at around 482k. MSA: 2%'ish growth, around 970k, and CSA 1.5% growth, 985k-990k.

An early map showing population change % between counties from 2010 to 2019.. Early data release. What I’m seeing so far, shows a positive sign that the Omaha MSA/CSA had a healthy growth year.. Especially Douglas and Sarpy counties (no surprise there, lol)..

https://www.census.gov/content/census/e ... 444662.jpg

Stay tuned for more updates as they’re released. Have a good night...

Solid and consistent with the last decade. I like that we are growing at a sustainable rate that is not overburdening our infrastructure (at least not the level of Austin or other faster growing mid-size metros), but I hope recent planning and development efforts like Blueprint, UNMC's potential expansion, Omaha's and Lincoln's Chambers' Opt-In, and local and state transportation projects will help create more jobs and bring more people to the region.

I agree.. It looks like the Omaha CSA clocked in at 986,002.. So good, solid growth for sure..

Based on my eyeball test it also looks like you won the contest this year ita.. So adult beverage of your choice and lunch is on me..once the quarantine and social distancing situation ends...

It looks like they knocked Omaha's 2018 estimate down by about 1200 people.

It also looks like Ames added a county this year... Boone I would guess. They have 25,000 more people in their counts than last year.

I saw that..

I’ve thought for some time now, the US Census annual estimates have been lowballing the Omaha MSA/CSA populations..

I remember when the official 2000 and 2010 US Census numbers came out, how pleasantly surprised I was that the population growth numbers were higher than the annual estimates.. We’ll know soon enough as the official 2020 US Census numbers come out next Spring...

Just a reminder to make sure everyone fills out their census forms on-line. You should have received the forms in the mail with your access code. Takes about 5 minutes. Due date is April 1, although I just read somewhere that it was pushed back to May 1, not sure.
